San Antonio will, surely receive
the endorsement of the voters of
Texas at the polls in November.
Until Sec. 3, Article VII is amend-
ed the country schools of Texas
will be in a measure handicapped.
Comfortable quarters are essential
for the attainment of best results,
and adequate builoing cannot be
secured under the present constitu-
tion. The plank referred to reads
as follows:
“The Democratic party believes
that ignorance is a misfortune and
we, therefore, favor u wise and lib-
eral financial support of our pub-
lic schools and all our state educa-
tional institutions. We favor the
adoption of the pending amend-
ment to Section 3, Article VII,
state Constitution, relating to pub-
lic free schools and commend the
support of said amendment to the
voters of Texas.
“The recent decision of the
Supreme court in the Baird. inde-
pendent school district case invali-
dates outstanding bonds of such
districts to the approximate amount
of $3,500,000. These bonds are
held by the state permanent school
fund and other innocent purcha-
sers. There should be no repudi-
ation of any public debt in Texas.
We, therefore, favor a Constitu-
tional amendment validating said
bonds,' ’
The limit was reached it Altus,
Okie, the other day when a photo-
grapher shot and killed a little
girl of eleven yearn of years, and
than killed himself, all because the
parents would not consent to their
marriage. And yet some people
contend that there is no hell!
Some people argue there is no
Devil going about as a roaring
lion seeking whom he may devour!
If that man was not led captive by
the Devil at his will, what was the
, a
matter with him? If theres no hell
for his sort, why not? Not only is
the old book true, but eve; and
anon we behold good and sufficient
reasons for all that it proclaims.
Thk News is trying to locate
the oldest Mason in the state.
Lyman Brightman of Comanche
was made a Mason at Goliad in
1849 and so far as heard from is
oldest living Texas made Mason.
A letter from Ed Fleming clerk j
of Selden Baptist church tells of
the resignation of Rev. E. 8. Mc-
Laughlin as pastor, after fivfe
years of service there. During
these five years 171 members have
been added, 72 of them by baptism.
Salary was raised from two to
three hundred dollars, and con-
tributions to Missions nearly
doubled. “These have been|years
of blessed mutual service to both
pastor and people”
T. O. Moore of Comanche, pres-
ident of the Ex-Confederate Asso-
ciation of this and Comanche
county, says that at several re
unions at Dublin, as a matter of
choice, he has slept cn the benches
and rolled around on the ground.
He had invitations as well as
money to pay his way, but simply
wanted to remain on the grounds.
He says otf one occasion Dick
Long, Dick McCain and himself
spent the night that way ahd had a
“grandold time.”
