MORE TIPS ON DRIVING
Your car was built to “take it.” Even so. it thrives best or.
kind treatment. Tests indicate the following driving tcchniQue^
prolong the useful life of a car: ^
Don’t give the engine more gas than it can digest.
Don’t accelerate too rapidly.
ATLANTIC ORDEAL
Frequently, the only result of
an extra burst of speed is
extra pressure on the brakes a
moment later.
Don’t drive fast unless you’re really in a hurry—and even then
stop to think if the time saved will be worth the extra wear on
tires and motor, the extra cost of gas and the increased chance
of accident.
Slow down before entering a curve Then accelerate, but
not too much. Your tires don’t have to “squeal" to be unhappv
on a curve.
Slow down on rough roads. Your springs may be able to
take it, but your tires can’t.
Don t stage a climbing test on every hill. Your gears are
there for a purpose.
Don’t coast downhill. It’s poor economy. The cost of wear
on brake linings is likely to Exceed greatly the amount saved
in gasoline.

Research staff of General Motors. Next article: The Art
of Stopping.
17 bs on hand
—6 lbs. Total family allowanc?.
11 lbs. “Excess Sugar’*.
In this caes it will be necesdary
to remove a total of 11 stamps from
the three books to be issued. There-
fore, remove4 stamps from each of
two books, and 3 stamps from the
third licok. thus prorating the re-
moval of stamps as evenly as possi-
ble from each person's book.
(c> 20 pounds of sugar on hand:
3 Dersons
X2 lbs. permitted per person
6 lbs. Total family allowance.
20 lbs. on hand
—6 lbs Total family allowance
14 lbs. “Excess Sugar”.
In this case it would be necasaary
to remove 14 stamps from the three
books. However, removing the high-
est permissible number of stamps
(4* from each of the three books
would only result in the removal
of 12 stamps. Therefore, no books
can be issued to any person in this
family unit.
