Next to air, water and food there
is probably nothing more essential
to man's existence in the way of
civilization than cotton. A bit of
the “Irony of the gods" is found *D
the fad that while war has demor-
alized tin* cotton industry, yet,with-
out cotton there could be no war.

This gentleman has lived 39
years at Duffau, and for honesty,
probity, uprightness no one jn
that section can sav aught against
him. Iu fact, he imbibed the hab-
it of right living from his old fath-
er, D. B. Shaw’, who still lives in
that section, and has lived there 47
years. When a man lias been a
citizen of a community 39 years,
has lived a clean life, has stood for
things that make community life
letter each year, and has earned
th rood will and approbation of
all i I , neighbors, means a great
deal. Because they believe him to
be the ’ qical man to represent
them in the councils of the county
governnic A Mr. W. A. Shaw re-
ceived a very substantial endorse-
lient of his neighbors recently for
he office of county commissioner
rom the DufTau precinct.
He is known as a good citizen,
and as a safe and conservative
man, and not one to be influenced
against the interest of his county.
If he is elected, precinct number
three, which includes a large por-
tion of the eastern section of Erath
county, will be proud of their rep-
resentative. He will be an advo-
cate of good roads and bridges, and
will be sure that they are had at
the right price before they are con-
tracted for should any of this kind
of work come up while he is in office.
He knows that when a dollar is
spent it should bring in return a
full one hundred cents worth of
value. He Is and has always
been a staunch democrat.
