Thirteen new typewriters were
urchased this week by Prof. J.
W. Foote for use in the depart-
ment of commercial arts of John
Tarleton College. Prof. Foote has
charge of this department.
Mesdames Jim Cage and J. J.
Mulloy spent Sunday in Dallas,
with Dr. Mulloy and Mrs. Alex
Johnson who are patients at the
Baptist sanitarium, both patients
are doing nicely.
Saturday for the week-end and
they will return home Monday.
Levi Reid, a barber of Stephen-
ville, and son of Mr. and Mrs.
G. L. Reid, was married June 14,
to Miss Gordie Austin of Route 8.
Miss Austin is a daughter of
Herman Austin, a prosperous
farmer.
Mrs. J. B. Gordon returned
home Monday after a pleasant
trip to the Baptist encampment at
Alta Frio, near Sabinal. They
spent several days visiting in San
Antonio on their return home.
Sheriff Wright, since January 1,
has arrested and put in jail, 9£
prisoners. The greatest numbei
in jail at any one time was two
weeks ago when he had fourteen
boarders. There are now six in
the county jail.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lay and their
four children of Route 5 visited
Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Gregory at
Amorilla last week. The trip was
made in an auto.
Will Shelton, a prominent Co-
manche mill-man, was here this
week to see home folks. Miss
Nan Shelton accompanied him.
Miss Imogene Barrett left Fri-
day to teach school at Lelia
Lake. Enroute she will visit
friends at Fort Worth and Lock-
ney.
J. R. Mace and wife, who were
former citizens of Erath county,
are here this week from Lelia
Lake, visiting Bob North west of
the city, and also relatives near
Exray. Mr. Mace has prospered
since he located at Lelia Lake.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Coffee of
Ranger visited while in Houston
with Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Gerino.
Mrs. Gerino was formerly Miss
Beulah Reid of Stephenville.
Miss Lucile Henderson, who is
on an extended visit thru Colo-
radp, Oklahoma and Texas, and
who has been visiting her sister,
Mrs. V. H. Wallace of Stephen-
ville, returned Monday to her
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fergu-
son of Eastland were here Satur-
day and Sunday, visiting their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Fer-
guson and Mr. and Mrs. B. P.
Barrett. Mr. Ferguson is in the
lumber business.
A successful poultry man of
Stephenville recommends peanut
vines as excellent for hens to
make them lay. He pours boiling
water over the dried vines, and
lets them soak over night. He
says the chickens eat them greed-
ily. This food is not necessary
home in Shreveport, La., where
she will teach in .the public j if chickens have access to grass

and smoothe, and the vines pro-
ductive. He planted this variety,
fertilized liberally, and had oodles
of stuff to convert into catsup and

COTTON REPORT
The government cotton report
estimates the 1921 crop at seven
million thirty-five thousand bales,
and cotton went up 90 points on
Sept. 1. Cotton sold in Stephen-
ville this week at 17 cents.
