Mrs, Martin spoke on "Nursing
in Today's World." She stnt< d
"The need for nut sing is as old
as pain Itself she listed practi-
cal nursing as the oldest form
Front this nurses went to nurses
aides and now to the latest stare
of l.iseeased Vocational Nurses
The practical nurse was one who
had little or no formal training
The nurses aides helped in hos-
pitals and learned from regis-
tered nurses. Now the l.lcensed
Vol itional Nur--e undergoes train-
ing in hospitals under skilled
teachers and takes a state hoard
elimination to become a t <-n ■ t
vocational nurse."
Mrs Martin pointed o u t
that the nurses training
prepares the trainee for many
tliinvs. also there is the reward of
being useful to others, the skill

as you grow in enjoyment of life
The demand for nurses outstrips
the supply because of the many
different fields open to Dallied
nurses Some of the requirements
are one must be healthy, like
people and get along well with
them, adopt to situations that
arise, have a pleasant disposition,

economical, hut first you must
want to he one. she said
Mrs Clinton Hudspeth gave
"The History of Nursing". She
stated "Nursing is one of the
oldest arts, hut nursing as we
know it is one of the youngest
arts The lowest of savages had
nursing traditions. In primitive
days illness was believed to he
caused by evil spirits and was
treated by making the body as
unpleasant as possible This was
done by burning, beating, cutting
and sturxlug in hopes the evil
spirit would move out. Animals
have a wax of their own for
nursing the sick Kven birds have
been known to help themselves
when injured
' During the primeval era most
of the nursing was done by the
clergy. In DM3 Ft. Winvcnt In
