News is scarce here as this re
porter has bene very close to home
Oh, yes. the Burgess Bellomy’s
have a new Chevrolet car. They
drove to Fort Worth to visit their
faaaiUes.
then, too, the Alien Hog
gards are driving a new Pontiac,
we hear. Don't know that there will
be any news at all next week as i
■early everyone has a new car
now.
Just like the TVs, a few don't
have then} and the same ones don't
have new cars.
The 11. D. Club was well attend-
ed last Wednesday afternoon in
hte home of Mrs. Pete Gilmore. A
new member, Mrs. Bryson, joined
forpci with us.
We hear that the baby of Bro.
Shoemate is decidedly belter and
is doing well.
Mrs. Ed Johnson and Mrs. Henry
Myers of Newcastle attended the
club on Wednesday and displayed

Myers and Mrs. ??? , which
showed that these ladies have a
natural talent for the work.
The rig which has been drilling
on the Durwood Daws land has
been removed, so we guess it was
a dry hole.
There was a very scant attend-
ance at the Baptist Sunday School
last Sunday. We can't understand
why people can’t go to Sunday
School when there is no preaching,
just the saire as wnen there is.
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Carmack and
Mr. and Mrs. August Robinson of
Murray visited Earl and Etna Wil
kinson on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Cotton S.arbuck and son
Rickie visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Dick Wells, Sunday.

A vary serious accident happen-
ed near Proffitt on Sunday morn-
ing about S o'clock. A car full of
negroes on their way from New
Mexico to Mississippi ran off a
bridge, and although the car was
uprighted, the people, among
whom were several young children,
were rather seriously injured.
Some had teeth knock out, several
severe cuts and bruises on theij
faces, but this reporter does not
know how seriously others were in-
jured.
Finally they attracted the atten-
tion of a passerby and were taken
to the Graham hospital.
Mr. and Mrs J. W. Miller «nd
family were week end guests in
the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. W. Miller.

4-H Leaders From
Young County To
Attend Tractor Clinic
New models and new features keep coming
from International all the time! Here now are
1955’s first — the R-1700 Series, designed by the
leader in the 16,001-19,500 GVW range —to bring
new hauling profits to every operator using trucks
in this class. '
These brilliant new trucks far surpass all former
Internationals in this GVW classification. And
they are powered by an engine that puts out more
horsepower per cubic inch than any comparable
6-cylinder truck engine on the road!
Come in and get full facts on these new Inter-
nationals. You’ll quickly see why-in perform-
ance, economy, efficiency—they outrank anything
in the 16,001-19,500 GVW clstae.
S
Young County 4-H Club mem
bers will participate for the 9th
consecutive year in the 4-H Live-
Power program. Through the pro-
gram local 4-H adult leaders are
given special training in the prop-
er care and maintenance of . the
farm tractor and, with the assist
ance of the local county agent, in
turn will direct; the program in
the lbtal clubs. ' •
George Allison of Jean,' will at-
tend on March 1-3 a district clinic
in Childress to get information
needed for conducting the pro-
gram in their local clubs. Assistant
County Agent Frank Hall will ac-
company the leaders and take part
in the training clinic.
Leaders from 22 counties also
-Vri/1 attend. Instructors comprise
agricultural engineers from Texas
A. and M. College, farm tractor
manufacturers and the sponsor of
the program in Texas, Stanolind
Oil and Gas Company. The class
sessions will be divided between
lecture periods and practical work.
The training is confined to meth-
ods and practices designed to help
VH members do a better job of
keeping the farm tractor in top
operating condition from the stand-
point of maintenance.
With the cost-price squeeze be-
coming more acute, efficient oper-
ation and management of the farm
business becomes increasingly im-
portant. It is estimated, says As-
sistant Frank Hall, that up to 10
per cent of all fuel is wasted ,be
cause of improper maintenance and
adjustments on tbe farm tractor.
Too, it’s like money in the bank,
he says, when years can be added
to the life of the tractor through
proper care. ,
When the leaders return, plans
will be made for a county program
and information on how it will op-
erate may be obtained from the
county agent's office.
