The Watchman desires t«» cor-
rect some statements thru have
' been made regarding certain
cases of men»ngitis in Panola
county, which were attended by
our county health officer. Dr. H.
A. Ross. The report is current
that there were several negro
cases on the east side of the Sa-
bine in which Dr. Ross was call-
ed, diagnosed the cases as men
ingitis, administered the serum,
and tnat each patient receiving
the treatment died. The facts
in the case are the very reverse,
for each patient receiving the
treatment got well, while those
to whom the serum was not given
died. In the case of Mr. June
Crawford at Beckville, Dr. Ross

A nice skin helps to make life easy.
Bad toilet soap causes skin dis-
orders and blemishes—the children
especially being victims through the ignorance
or neglect of their parents. No one need suffer.
Good toilet soap is so cheap that it is within the
reach of all.
We stock many varieties and can guarantee that
our soaps are pure, “all soap” and therefore
most beneficial to the skin of both young and
old—as recommended by physicians. Come in
and let us show you.

To the Voters of Panola County,

If I was able to work as I once
was I would not ask for any of-
fice. I have no official record to
offer; only that of a citizen. My
motto, or platform, is the golden
rule. Mv neighbors and friends
can tell of my past life. I feel
myself qualified to take charge
of the office, and if elected will
do my best to the end that no
one will have cause to regret
casting therr vote for me.
Friends. I will not be aide to

administration of the serum.
Other physicians dissented from
his views, and the remedy was
not given. Mr, Crawford con-
tinued to grow worse. Last Sun-
day Dr. Markham, of Longview,
who has had considerable experi-
ence in cases of meningitis, was
called in, and he pronounced the
case meningitis is its severest
form, and stated that it was then
too late for the serum, that Mr.
Crawford could survive only a few
hours, however he advised the
use of the serum, hoping that it
might yet have time to take effect.
The serum was given, but Mr.
Crawford died.
The above facts are given with
no view of criticising any one,
but as a matter of justice, pure
and simple, to Dr. Ross, and the
editor of the Watchman assumes
responsibility for the statement
peace and pleasure of either of
us or any voter.
I promise if you give me the
office that I will not ask for a
third term without the assurance
that a majority want me to.
Placing myself in your hands at
the coming primary election, and
thanking you for past favors, I
remain yours to serve.
