schedule
The Greater Hampstead Chamber of
Commerce has been very busy this winter
planning our calendar of events for 2005.
On Feb. 4, we had our annual dinner and
presented our first ever "Outstanding
Citizen of the Year" award, which went toHampstead is the home of the annual North Carolina Spot Festival.
- photo by Michelle CharlesHoward Hess. Howard was instrumental
in raising funds and building the tennis
courts at the Topsail High School complex.
The entire tennis team was present to
show their support and say "thank you" to
him. It was a wonderful evening as fami-
ly, friends and fans surrounded Howard.
The excitement did not end there. The
chamber then presented a check for $3,000
to Pender County Commissioner DavidWilliams, which helped enable us to have
"Hampstead" and the Pirates' Logo (for
Topsail High School) painted on the newly
erected water tower. Williams sponsored
this endeavor and the funds had to be
raised in two weeks as the painters were
ready and waiting. Nat and Bonnie Smith,
newcomers to the area, learned of our
plight and donated $2,000 to the fund,
which allowed us to reach our goal in theCHRISTIE'S
