avid tennis player himself, said he made
the donation to honor Howard Hess.
Hampstead, once again, came together
for a great cause. As I communicate with
people who call or write in, I can't stress
enough to them the community spirit we
have here in Hampstead. It is such a great
place to live and work and the people real-
ly care about each other.
Our Second Annual Silent Auction was
held on March 19 at the Hampstead
Community Building. This events is
always lots of fun and raises money to
help with chamber expenses.
The Business Expo will be held on May
7 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Topsail
High School Gym. This event showcases
over 50 businesses from the area. There are
door prizes, drawings, free health screen-
ings and free food and drinks. Over 300
people came through the doors last year.
The event is always a huge success.
On May 14, at 1 p.m., the chamber's
Booster Members are sponsoring our
Annual Golf Tournament at Olde Point Golf
and Country Club. This year we are part-
nering with the Pender County Blueberry
Association. There will be 30 teams compet-
ing to win great prizes. Safeway Chevrolet
of Burgaw is supplying a new car, which
will go to the winner of the Hole In One. To
sign up call the chamber office at 270-9642
or Mel or Annie at Olde Point Golf and
Country Club 270-2403.
May 21 and 22 the annual 'Down Home
Antique Fair" will be held at Poplar Grove
Plantation. This year, the chamber will be co-
sponsoring a "Garden Party" with Poplar Grove
on Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. There will be
music, an elegant catered lunch, and door
prizes. Tickets are $30 per person; reservations
are required as seating is limited. If you have
paid for the luncheon, admission to the Antique
Fair and the 1850 Manor House is free. Tickets
are available on line at www.poplargrove.com
or by calling 686-9518 ext. 26.
As you can see, May is a very busy
month filled with exciting events and
entertainment for everyone.
The Greater Hampstead Chamber of
Commerce is dedicated to improving con-
ditions for the entire community. Many
volunteers are needed to help out in the
office and with projects. If you would like
to participate, please call Susan Forbes,
