life of Mr. Bailey was written by
a member of the family:'
William Emerson Bailey was
born Aug. 8, 1893 near Rockwall.
Texas. He was a veteran of World
War I. He was converted at the
age of 19. and Joined the Metho-
dist Church. Six years ago. he re-
dedlcat&l his life at the age of
He married Fannie Mae Hill,
March 17. 1918 at Direct. Texas.
He Is survived by his wife and
five children: E. Vernus Bailey
of Oorman. Mrs. L. T. Hagood of
cothe; six brothers. Linnle, Orov-
er, and Tommie Bailey of Chllll-
cothe, Robert and Jimmie Bailey
of Sweetwater, and Henry Bailey
of Temple, Oklahoma.
There Is a host of nieces, ne-
phews, and other relatives and
Velma and, friends who mourn his passing.

The Selective Service Act went
Into effect In September 1840 and
the local office was opened here
in October of that year, being
first located at the City Hall;
then a few month later was mov-
ed to the courthouse where hund-
reds or men. received orders for
Induction Into the armed forces.
In all, 4467 men between the
ages of 18 and 45 were registered
in Comanche County, some 3000
of whem were Inducted Into ser-
vice. 1
Miss Dess Rock, who later mar-
ried Cleve Callaway, was appoint-
ed secretary when the board was
first set up and has served since
and will until the act finally ex-
pires May 7. Mrs. Callaway ren-
jdered fair and impartial service
j and was classified by the War
Department as one of the mst ef-
| flcient In her line of service.
