Q.—Matthew 11:21, 22. IPleaae ex-
plain how it can be more tolerable for
Tyre and Sidon than for Bethsaida if
these nations are going to an eternity
of torture. (E. J. G.)
Auswer.—Tcv speak of these nations
,«s going to an eternity oj[ torture is to
assert that which is.not tfue. The idea
of disea mate spirits being plagued by
devils in some distant infernal abode
is an idea which has neither Scripture,
reason nor fa**t to support it. It is an
invention of^ the past ages of darkness.
We much prefer to take the 'inspired
prophet’s words (Ezekiel 1G), and, the
corroboration of them in the Gospel of
Matthew (Matthew 11:21. 22). and by
such get an understanding of the mat-
ter. The Day of .Judgment has not yet
come, so the tolerable times are still
future. The word “judgment” meunj
trial or testing and a decision nssocin"
ed with it The Day of Judgment is
the world’s trial clay, just as the pres-
ent time is the trial day of the Church.
God will neither judge nor condemn
anyone who* is ignorant, but He will
provide knowledge as a basis upon
which to form His decision; this will be
a knowledge of the truth. As the people
of Sodom did not have this knowledge
so God has “appointed a day”—of judg-
ment for them to gain such knowledge
and decide for themselves which they
will choose- of the two issues of that
Judgment Day—life or death. The peo-
ple of Capernaum, Bethsaida, Cborazin,
etc., had more light, and hence were
more responsible, but they did not pos-
sess full knowledge Hence in the
Day of Judgment, toleration will be
meted out accordingly. For the Igno-
rant, we are told, it will he more tol-
erable in the Day of Judgment than
for those who had more knowledge.
The assurance is that the poor shall
be judged with equity in that day.

Law being placed in the “Ark" signify,
and why. -were .there two tables? (H
L. D.)
j Answer.—The Ark seems to have
been Intended as a representation of
God’s wonderful plan which He has
formed for the providing of inhabitants
in abundance- for this earth and a
reigning spiritual- host selected front
Hinong mankind for their blessing. As-
this Ark was placed in the Most Holy,
which represented heaven itself, we
must suppose that the Ark represented
God’s plan as it is embodied iu the
Lord Jesus and in the church. To lie
of the church class it Is necessary that
each individual have- the Law of God
written Ineradlcahly in his heart. This
seems to have been represented by
placing the two tables of the Law in
the Ark. There are two features to
this Law. as .Tesus suggested in His
words recorded in Matthew 22:35*39
The first four commandments set forth
our duty toward God. The others show
our relationship toward man. Both
features of this Law must be written
In the heart—must be made part of the
very being.

Dallas, June 20.—That this year’s
exhibition of the Texas State Fair,
which is to be conducted in this city
during October, will be the most suc-
cessful in the history of the associa-
tion was the declaration made by the
directors of the fair at a recent gath-
ering here.
The richest purses ever offered at a
state fair will be awarded this year
and will amount to $80,000.
Livestock exhibits will be the feat-
ure of the 1914 show and from pres-
ent indications some of the finest
blooded stock in the country will be
shown. Word is coming from breed-
ers of fine s.tock in all sections of the
country saying they will be on the
grounds with their prize Vinners.
Liberal awards are being offered in
the livestock division. Arrangements
are being made to house the most ex-
tensive exhibits ever shown, on the
fair grounds and from the advanced
orders, which are being received daily,
asking for exhibition space, .the expo-
sition buildings will be taxed to the
limit for space.

The Vernon Business League has
Q.—Hebrews 11:39, 40: “These all
* * * received not the promtees, God
having provided tome better thing for
us.” What is the “better thing,” and
who are meant by “us?” (L. B.)
Answer - The “us" in this text up
plies to those* who are footstep follow
ers of the Lord .Jesus in this Gospel
age, referred to in the Scriptures as
the Bride of Christ. Sons of God. and
Church of the Firstborn That God
has provided some better tiling for
those who are disciples of the Tx)rd
in this Gospel age Is apparent from
many Scriptures besides the above
One striking Instance occurs in tin*
case of John the Baptist, when the5
Lord, referring to him, said that nl
though he was the greatest born
amongst women up to that time, yet
he that was least in the Kingdom of
Heaven was greater than John the
Baptist The greatness would consist
in this, that the Kingdom class or
Church class will in the resurrection
he spiritual beings, whereas none who
died prior to our Lord’s death will he
spiritual beings, but of the earth
earthy, human beings. The better
thing, therefore, mentioned in the text
Is the heavenly inheritance offered to
those who believe during this Gospel
dispensation. It Is elsewhere spoken
of by the Apostle Paul os the prize of
our high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
This is referred to also as a heavenly
calling In Hebrews 3:1. It is better In
the sense that nil those who will form
part of tills corporate body which is
being selected at this time will be of
the Divine nature In, the Resurrection,
like the Lord and shall sfee him as he
is, whereas all the rest of mankind
will be restored to perfect human con-
ditions such ns Adam possessed prior
to his fall
Q.—John 5:25, i«y«, “He that hear-
•th My word and believeth on Him
that sent Me—SHALL not come into
CONDEMNATION or judgment but i*
past from death until life.” How do
you harmonize thi* “judgment” with
the apoatle’a thought that the church
ia now on judgment? (E. D. K.)
Answer.—1The church will not have
part in the Judgment of Acts 17:31.
This judgment day God lias set apart
for the world of mankind The church
are to be the judges in that judgment
day (1 Corinthians G:2) nnd^must there-
fore have previously had their judg-
ment. The judges will have been thor-
oughly tried and tested and proved
worthy of their high position before
the world will lie tried by them. Saint
Paul says. “Some men’s sins go before
to judgment and some follow after’’
(Hebrews 9:27i. The church’s go be-
fore. They are cautioned to remem
her that the-world’s judgment time has
not come yet. but is a future event in
which we will have n part, therefore.
“Judge nothing before the time" (1
Corinthians 4:5) The time will come
when there will be n judging work for
the owM-eoming class to do. Those wiio
will he of that class will be the ones
who are themselves judged now. but
who are charitably disposed toward
others., who “render evil unto no man”
(1 Thessn Ionia ns 5:15). and “speak evil
of no man" (Titus 3:2).

Q.—Saint John declares “Beloved,
now are we the Sons of God.” Are wc
actual sons of God now? (E. M.)
Answer.—1The Scriptures sometimes
speak of the New Creatures, the
church, as being children, and some
times speaks of them as being merely
begotten to a new life. Both ex pres
slons are true to the facts, and repre
sent actual conditions. We have the
begetting or beginning of a new life
preparatory lo entering upon new cou
ditions. In order that we may be born
on the new plane the old nature must
die. All that we hnvq now of the New
Creature is the new mind We are
learning to think spiritually, our hopes
and ambitions are heavenly instead of
earthly We die to the fleshly mind--
our affections are centered on the benv
only things This is what is repre
seated by our begetting. When the
Bible speaks of us ns being sons of
God we then are considered ns new
creatures in the sense that the new
mind is actually ours. We actually
think and hope along new lines, along
spiritual lines. This mind Is a spirit
ual mind and should have a spiritual
body But first God wishes us to prove
that we would make proper use of this
spiritual body and its powers The
new mind Is ^therefore required to tab
rrnacle for a time In this old flesh and.
by its faithfulness in opposing the
fleshly tendencies, demonstrate itself
worthy of having the glorious spiritual
body Now we are the sons of God
with unsatisfactory human bodies,
“but It doth not appear what we shall
be" when we get bodies appropriated
to the spiritual minds, “but we know
that when He shall appear, we shall
be like Him" for we shall have bodies
like His of the “divine nature" and.
being on the same plane of existence
with Him “we shall se? Him as He Is"
«1 John 3:2».
Q,—If it wai possible for Judss to
go to ths second death before Pente-
cost, why is it not possible to go to the
second death after Pentecost without
being begotten of “ths holy spirit?”
(O. «.)
Answer.—Judas was not begotten of
the spirit, for “the holy spirit was not
yet given" (John 7:39). We#do know
however that a portion of Christ’s spir
it was breathed upou all the Apostles
and that In the use of the holy spirit
he. as well as the others, vras respon
sible to God. The holy spirit is receiv
ed in no such sense today but Is nctu
ally given to us. Only those who en-
ter into a contract with God for the
sacrificing of all earthly interests,
who agree to make their one aim the
attaining of a spiritual inheritance,
can have the spirit. These are now
begotten of the holy spirit to be later
born on the spirit plane. If by their
faithfulness here they prove them
selves worthy of the great privileges
that will attend the use of spiritual
powers, they will bp made partakers^
of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). Tbt
answer to your question, then, lies in
the fact that Judas’s relationship to
the holy spirit was entirely different
from ours. Jesus was begotten of the
holy spirit and loaned some of the
spirit given powers to His apostles
No one has it in that sense todav. H
comes to us as a gift.

Q.—If Jesus was the only begotten ot
the Father CJohn 1:141 why are we also
spoken of as begotten of God? (I
John 5:18.) (E. S. M.)
Answer.—The tiist chapter of John
takes us back to the beginning, at
which time Jesus was the oul.v begot
ten of the Father There is no record
of any others having their begettal or
God UDtll this t’hrisiian dispensation
As stated in John I Si. "Ml things are
made by Jesus- none beside Himself
received life direct from the Father.*
Again He states of Himself, "1 am the
beginning and the ending, the first and
the last" (Revelation 22:13) It is not
as human beings that we are begotten
of God Human life was received from
our father Adam It is for this cause
that we are weakened and sinful Be
gotten again not of the flesh, but ot
the spirit, we will be eventually born
on the spirit plane if the new nnnnv
is properly and fully developed in tis
“That which is born of the flesh N
flesh: that which is born of the spirit
is spirit” (John 3:Gt When this birth
takes place, the limitations of the flesh
and sin wilt cease. “The wind bloweth
where it listeth, and thou hearest the
sound thereof, ijuf canst not tell
whence It cometh. and whither it
goeth: so is every one that is born of
the spirit” (John1 3':S). The spirit he-
wing may come and’ go- like the wind.
No, doubt nil' his other powers will be
