the district’s activities but the main
point of topic among the oil frater-

the refinery markets, causing gaso-

19 wells drilling and 27 shut down for
various reasons.

the charity commissary approxi-
mately $100.00 worth of food, accord-
ing to the workers last Monday after-

Staff This Week
Miss Myrtle Russell, correspondent
in Electra for the Wichita Falls Rec-
ord News has been added to the staff
of the Electra Star as society editor.
Miss Russell is well known in Electra
and has been engaged in newspaper
writing for a number of years.
She has written special and fea-
ture articles for The Star at various
periods and the addition will give The
Star staff one of the most complete
news gathering forces in Electra. Al-
ways striving to bring home all the
home news to Electrans, they feel
that the addition of Miss Russell’s
services will be well received.

Funeral Services Are
Held for Electra
Teacher Sunday
Funeral services were held in
GateBville, Texas for Miss Lois Camp-
bell, 29, prominent Electra school
teacher last Sunday afternoon. Mis3
Campbell died in a Wichita Falls hos-
pital following a short illness from
the influenza, which rapidly developed
into pneumonia.
Miss Campbell taught the low firs-
grade in the Thompson Ward school
on the south side of Electra. She has
been teaching here for the past two
years and enjoyed a wide circle of
friends.
She is survived by her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. J. P. Campbell of Gatesville.

To the victims who have the flu,
and on the part of those who do not
have thc disease, they have been urg-
ed to remain in the house or even in
bed long enough to be rid of the sick-
ness.
A number of charity cases in the
city have also been reported and since
they are without adequate clothing,
fuel, etc., a dire and disastrous situa-
tion is staring the citizenry of Electra
in the fact. Every citizen has been
urged to do his bit to prevent the eoi-
demic.

Donald Kent, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Dodson, manager of the lo-
cal Saul’s store, was operated on in a
Wichita Falls hospital last week) Ac-
cording to last reports, he is on the
road to recovery.
Electra May Have Free
Bridge Soon Is Report
The Community Singers met Sun-
day afternoon at Oklaunion and a
large crowd was in attendance. W.
T, Westbrook, president, was, in
charge and singers from several com-
munities participated on the program.
The next meeting will be held at the
Electra Assembly of God church, Dec.
11.

Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree has been erect-
ed ac thc corner of Cleveland and
Waggoner streets and decorations for
same will be started immediately. The
town in general, has been more ac-
tive this week than since last year.
Not because of sales, but in prepara-
tion for the Christmas party.
The feature of the program will be
the Key Sisters from Hollis, Okla.
This quartet has been featured
throughout the United States and the
Electra merchants were extremely
lucky in obtaining their services.
They will furnish about thirty or 45
minutes of tho program.
Thc kiddies will be given free
candy some of which Will contain
valuable gifts. A large crowd is ex-
pected and the parents of children
a’-e urged to bring the entire family
to have a good time.
Program Given
The program will start at 6:30 with
a band conert at the comer of Cleve-
land and Waggoner streets. Immedi-
ately after the concert, the band will
march through the Jefferson passage
way and the children will be lined Xfa
on thc south end of the street. The
Boy Scouts will be in charge of hand-
ling the children and the distributi
of cauuy will be given, with ea
child passing through the- vestibule!
The band, in the meantime, will go

According to C. C. Hair, adjutant
of the American Legion, all dances
will be prohibited at the American
Legion hall on South Main street, ac-
cording to announcement made in a
letter to the Star this week. Follow-
ing is the statement as issued by Ad-
jutant Hair:
“By order of the post commander,
the adjutant of the Claude C. McDon-
ald Post No. 319 American Legion,
was instructed to inform the public of
its attitude toward the dances held
at the legion hall. Due to some criti-
cism, the post took official action to
stop all dances at the legion hall.
“The legion especially wants the
people of Electra and vicinity to know
that the legion stands for what is
right and good and appreciates the
co-operation they have had from the
people and stand ready at all times
to help in every good cause.”

Mrs. B. A. Lane to
Be Held Thursday

First Baptist church Thursday morn-
ing for Mrs. B. A. Lane, 43, who suc-

Concluding the selections by the
choral club the Key Sisters will then
be featured. This is one act_to be
presented in Electra that no one
should miss. After the Key Sisters’
program, the introduction of duchess
from the nearby communities will be

Coronation of Queen
The introduction and* coronation of
the queen will be administered by the
king after which he will give the
prizes to the duchesses and queen. -
A large number of people have been
given employment that otherwise
would not have had the work. Prac-
tically every store in Electra hu nad
to employ extra help during the holi-
days and it has been predicted that
more merchandise will be purchased
this year than ever before. A greater
part of the merchandise is new and
the very lowest prices will prevail in.
all the stores.

As in keeping with the custom
during the past few yearg , the
Electra Star will publish all Santa
Claus letters addressed to this pa-
per. Each year the Santa Claus let-
ters provide much amusement to
the ldddies and the grownups as
well, reading the letters.
