One of th* worat wrecks within
tha history of the Texes 4 Oulf
Railway occurred just as the
train from Longview wee coming
into the depot at Carthage Sun*
day afternoon. The train left
Longylew 45 minutes late and
was making It in here about on
schedule time, having made the
run from Longview in an hour
and twenty minutes. The switch
at WhitneyS saw mill side treok
caused tha wramt. The engine
and a box oar went through the
swiloh all right and kept on the
main line but either the baggage
oar or the coach following it took
the aide track. The baggage
oar was thrown on its side end
dragged some distance. The first
passenger coach crashed into a
oar of logs standing on the side*
track and th* entire end of the
ooaoh was broken to splinters.
Several negroes were in the front
and of the coach and it is mirec*
ulous that they were not all
killed. No great damage was
don* to the rear coach but all the
passengers were hurled to the
floor or thrown violently against
the seats by the impact. Tha
rfreck is a disastrous looking af*
fair and it aesma marvelous that
no lives' were lost. Among the
injured aret
Judge R. B. Levy, of Long*
view, thumb dlelooated.
District Attorney P. O. Beard,
of Henderson, bruieee on body,
also drenched by water from th*
cooler.
Oeo. H. Collins, of Carthage,
leg hurt, bruises on body.
Glen Boren, of Carthage, nose
hurt, body and leg bruised.
Jo* Battle, of Longview, Up
out, generally shaken up.
Brakeihan Rowell, two Inoh out
on right cheek.
J. B. Jones, wife end baby, of
Trabue’a mill, former had back
wrenched, Mrs. Jones injured
about th* jaw, body bruised but
not hurt much.
Albert Pruitt, Tlmpson, news
agent on train, bruised on left
side.
Arch and Tom Knight, of
Woods, slight outs and bruises.
Augusta Benton, wife of Ref*
Benton, oolored, left shoulder
dislocated, four ribs broken,
bruises about legs and head and
otherwise injured.
Henry Chapmen, oolored,
bruised leg.
Lonnie Hawkins, oolored
brakeman, arm injured, hurt
about neck and eyes.
Thlbby Hisbon, of Plenagen,
an old negro woman, both leg*
bad) / bruised and eo
hand.
Mr*. Weaver, of Ttmjpon, waa
on train. Bhe wee not hurt but
was completely drenehed with
water from tha cooler.
Mrs. Mills and Bruoa Hamlett,
of Tlmpson and Mat Oden, ot
Flanagan, and conductor Weaver
of the Cookie Burr were other
passengers who escaped without
injury.
Wilson, the mall agent, who
wee in the oar that turned over,
came out without a scratch.
The switoh wee not looked. A
brakeman on the Watermen
train, finding the look out ot or-
der Saturday broke it oft in order
to put in some logs at Whitney’s
mill. Either some on* had bean
prankjng with the switoh since
the train went up in the morning,
or else the jar of the train worked
it partly open so that the last
oars were thrown on th* side
treok.

One would think the Laxative idea
in a cough syrup should have been
advanced tong before it was. It
seems the only rational remedy for
coughs and colds would be to move
the bowels and clean the mucous
membranes of the throat am I lungs
at the same time. Kennedy’s l.axs
tiye Honey and Tar does this, ft is
the original Laxative Cough Myrup,
the beat known remedy for coughs,
colds, croup, whoriping cough, etc.
Tastes good and harmless.
