Comanche Tex Feb 15 Quito a sen-
sation was created Jiere yesterday when it
became known that Benjamin Smith a
young man livincr a few miles north of
town had been arrested and lodged in Jail
on an indictment charging him with se-
duction and breach of promise The friends
of both parties got together promptly and
arranged a compromise by the parties agree-
ing to marry They were accordingly
joined together in holy wedlock at 7 oclock
last night Rev J JiL Burrows officiating
The matter is generally regretted as tho

night by the announcement of the arrest of
Rov C C Bearden of the Christian church
upon a charge of forgery He was jailed but
promptly gave bond in tho sum of 750aud
was released Messrs Tinsley and Eubanks
being his sureties Mr Bearden is the as-
sociate editor of tho Fort Worth Advance
which it is said is tho organ of the Al-
liance in this section of the state and of
which Thomas Gaines of the Comancho
Pioneer Exponent is editor and business

Saturday from Brandon Sturgis called by
after her in his carriage to take her to the
train to return home and she claims in-
sulted her before reaching the depot She
r on arriving at home so informed her
brother henco tho result above Sturgis
denies the charge All three of the parties
have been arrested and gave bond to ap-
pear later There is quite a little excite-
ment over the affair as Miss Roberts is one
of the most highly respected young ladies
in this county having been a teacher for a
plumber of years in the HiUsboro public
schools

police raided a half dozen farm houses Sat-
urday and found nearly a car load of stolen
goods they knew they had unearthed a
gang of thieves that has been operating la-
the whole territory but did not know
until today that they bad raided tho
rendezvous of the worst gang of
counterfeiters in the West Charles and
Oliver Bates were arrested last night and
Mrs Hummel the wife of one of tho
fanners states they are members of an
active gang of counterfeiters who put
thousands of dollars ot spuriolis money in
circulation

the United States vs Eugene F Garcia
paying teller of the Louisiana national
bank came tip today in the United States
circuit court Garcia is charged with the
embezzlement of 104000 of the funds of the
bank There is much sympathy
for Garcia Who alleges the shortage
occurred through mistakes Garcia testi-
fied he never stolo the money and never
appropriated it to his own use The
witness solemnly swore that ho
never speculated gambled lived high
or kept horses His life was simple quiet
unostentatious Ho had a good salary and
was satisfied with it For twentyMs
years ho was not one hour late in coming
to work Garcia was very much affected
tears frequently welled up and his voice
became husky with emotion

full brother of Jackand Mary Barlow who
are white He alleges that by a mere un-
accountable freak of nature he was born a
negro but that he was recognized during
tho life of K C and Lockie Barlow as their
lawful son and was treated as a member of
tho family He now claims that because of
his dark skin his brother and sister are at-
tempting to defraud him out of his share of
his fathers estate The bill enjoins a fur-
ther disposition of tho property until the
question of paternity is settled
