After the Louvre, the Starving Artist Exhibit isn't quite the same. After
Van Cliburn, Priscilla Dinkwater's fifth grade recital isn't quite the same.
After Porsche winning Le Mans, watching Chevys drag race at Green Valley
isn't quite the same. Therefore, after the near ecstasy of the Mini-Parade,
many of us thought nothing would ever be the same. Wrong. Our Program
Chairman, JOHN STOREY, to the rescue. There was no free beer this time, and
we had to pay a nominal surcharge, but at least 75 of us had one swinging
wine tasting at the May meeting. Attendance for a non-election meeting may
have set a well deserved record. LEO CORRETTI, of Majestic Liquor Stores
put on a show that was delicious, informative and entertaining; a rare three-
way punch that proved a real knockout. (No, Mr. Police, not a real knockout).
JOHN has lined up a similar program for June, butthe location is different
this month, so be sure to read his column.
Attendance for the West Texas Scenic Drive was not as good as we have come
accustomed to of late, but the 30 or so who went saw some of the most beauti-
ful scenery in Texas this side of Big Bend National Park. RALPH AKIMOTO
ushered us through hills and valleys near Palo Pinto and the Brazos River
that the average pass through tourist never sees or gets to appreciate. We
also saw 11.8 miles of dust and/or mud roads, depending on whether the
scattered rain was on your car, that no one could hope to appreciate unless
you drove on them. Thanks, RALPH. We hope you will do this again next year.
Note to the general membership: let your chairmen know you appreciate their
efforts; this will encourage them to keep putting on programs and events
that we will all enjoy. You and the Club will be better off because of just
such efforts as this.
