Tenaha ISD Board of Trustees June Meeting
By: Rhonda Samford
Tenaha ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, June
22, 2015 for a public meeting to discuss the school
District’s federal programs, the parental involvement
handbook, and the student/parent school compact. Mrs.
Martha Boren gave a brief summary of each program or
handbook at the meeting including the targeted students
of each program. Parents, community, and business mem-
bers, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, and other
school personnel were encouraged to attend to provide
input. No action was needed.
Board then met for a Called Public Hearing where
Superintendent Scott Tyner discussed the 2015-2016
School District’s Budget and the 2015 Proposed Tax
Rate (Indebtness & Service; Maintenance & Operation).
He proposed the following rates: Debt Service Rate/ $
.16000 and Maintenance & Operational /$ 1.04000 for
a Proposed Tax Rate Total of $1.20000. No action was
required on this item.
The Board then met for a Regular meeting. The Board
approved signing a contract with Wells Nelson & As-
sociates Financial Advisors to Refinance Bonds. The
new refinancing will save the District $439,203.80. The
company explained in June of 2007, the District issued
$4,000000 of Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds,
Series 2007 (the "2007 Bonds"). They proposed that the
District refinance the callable 2007 Bonds with the pro-
ceeds of new Refunding Bonds. Proceeds from the sale of
the new Refunding Bonds would be used to: pay the costs
