WHAT CAUSED IT
A bitter fight was made in the Twelfth
congressional convention that met at
Auburn today which finally resulted
in the withdrawal of the delegation from
Allen county which is much the largest
county in tho district The main
fight was over the method
of the apportionment adopted by the state
central committee for the constitution
of the convention A resolution reciting
the fact that this apportionment
deprived two Republicans of Allen county
of a voice in tho convention was of-
fered but tho ultraHarrison men

would be carried up to the convention in

Special to the Gazette
New Orleans La March a Atwood
ViolettCo say
Futures Our cables today say the ad-
vance of 2Ot to 31 in Liverpool one of
which was lost by the closing was due to
jobbers manipulating March and ApriL
Spot sales were 8000 bales Our impression
Is that the market thero tomorrow will be
lower as thero has been nothing in the city
today to give any encouragement for Liv-
erpool We close about ono point uetter than
last night on near months and New York
closes about at yesterdays prices Tho
market Is apparently waiting for New
York Those who are long now
are indisposed to buy more
whereas the short interest Is largely pro-
tected by actual cotton and therefore is not
an interest easily alarmed
Port receipts today are 20000 bale3
against 10000 bales this day last year
The estimate here for tomorrow Is CCOO
bales against 17000 bales at all ports last
year
The weeks port receipts will
probably be about 120000 bales
or sligntly more than those of last year
which were 117000 Tho interior
stocks are not losing much conse-
quently tho amount coming into sight
to be reported tomorrow will
to about 125000 bales against about the
same last year A change must soon come
in tho situation What the chango will be
depends on whether the longs or shorts
become tired the soonest
Spots closed easy aud irregular Sales
7S0O bales including those made yesterday
after hours Quotations unchanged
although not obtainable
F o b sales tU bales Offerings light
at prices above a parity with this market
as the spot is cheaper for the moment and
buyers can operate here to much better ad-
vantage Demand chiefiy for low miadling
to good middling inclusive
