Association Plans Girl Scout Week
Plans for observing Girl Scout
Week, March 9-16, were dis-
cussed when members of Ker-
in it Girl Scout N eighborhood As-
sociation met Wednesday in reg-
ular session in Girl Scout Little
House.
All troops are asked to plan
something special for the week
and if suggestions are needed
they may contact either Mrs.
W, H. McClure or Mrs. Howard
Greenwood. Winkler County Min-
isterial Alliance is to be asked to
set aside pews for Girl Scouts
who will be attending Sunday
services. Girls are asked to wear
uniforms if possible.
Mrs. McClure, chairman, call-
ed the meeting to order and sec-
retary^ report was given by
Mrs. Robert Morris. Devotional
was by Mrs. J, Robert Hawkins
and a moment of silent prayer
was held for the meeting of
parents to discuss the school
dress policy.
Mrs. McClure gave a report
of the District 3 meeting which
was held in Kermit. She said the
meeting was well attended and
announced the Spring Council
meet is to be held April 21, in
Wink.
Leaders of Senior and Cadette
Scouts were urged to remind
their girls of opportunities which
are offered in the April Leader
magazine.
Also discussed was the Think-
ing Day program, to be held
Feb. 22.
Report of the Brownie Father-
Daughter banquet was given by
Mrs. James Harrison.
Announcement was made that
Mrs. Jerry Barker and Mrs.
Gary Rhymes will work with
Brownie Fly-Ups. Mrs. W. H.
Lamb, Brownie consultant, ask-
ed that all ceremonies be at-
tended.
Mitre Peak two-weeks camp-
ing schedule was announced as
follows: June 9-22; June 23-July
6; July 7-20; and July 21-Aug. 3.
One week camps are: July
7-13 and July 14-20.
Fly-Up ceremonies are to be
held July 21 through Aug. 3 at
Mitre Peak.
Mrs. Elmo McDougal, assist-
ant cookie sales chairman, re-
ported 300 cases of cookies were
sold during the sale.
Announcement was made that
Senior and Cadette Scouts have
an opportunity to make float trips
down the Rio Grande River. Lead-
ers and Girl Scouts must have
Junior and Senior Life Saving
Certificates to make the trip.
Another announcement inform-
ed Hat-A training for leaders
is set for March 22-24. Mrs.
Greenwood also reminded lead-
ers of the Caravan Training
scheduled Feb. 29, in Wink Girl
Scout House, from 9:30 a.m. until
1:30 p.m.
Leaders were urged to get
registration of troops into the
Council before March 1 for girls
names to be on the camp folder
list for summer camp. These
folders will be mailed March 15.
All committee mothers are
asked to register.
The meeting was closed with

morning in the home of Mrs.
Jim Morgan for regular mission
study.
Mrs. Chuck Fidler taught the
lesson. Meeting was opened with
prayer by Mrs. Morgan.
A short business meeting was
conducted by Mrs. Elton Smith,
circle chairman.
Mrs. Gene Jorgenson also was
present.
Mis. Smith led closing prayer.

Mrs. Ferrell Presents
Garden Club Program
Mrs. Clinton Ferrell present-
ed the program when members
of Kermit Garden Club met
Thursday in Permian Savings
and Loan Community Room.
Mrs. Ferrell, Flower Show
chairman, read the schedule for
the show and it was unanimously
approved. The show is to be held
in Fellowship Hall of Community
Church rather than in Community
Center.
Mrs. Ray Kayser was hostess
for the meeting which was open-
ed by Mrs. John Gammill, presi-
dent. Report on the January-Feb-
ruary National Gardener was
made by Mrs. Ben Cowling.
Mrs. G. T. Gilligan gave sec-
retary’s report and roll call was
answered by naming a White Ele-
phant container each member
has.
Mrs. F errell, hostess for the
next meeting, announced it is to
be held March 7 in Extension
Center.
Mrs. Kayser was named to
attend the Anti-Litter commit-
tee meeting of Kermit Chamber
of Commerce.
Other announcements includ-
ed: Flower Show Judges meet-
ing of the Southern Zone is to be
held Feb. 19, at 13 a.m., in Mid-
land; a District I meeting is to
be held in Hereford Feb. 26-27
with Mrs. Gammill and Mrs.
Neva Campbell planning to at-
tend; Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.
meeting is to beheld in Corpus
Christi, March 26-28; and, to
meet state projects, the group
voted to purchase a binder for
Lone Star Gardener magazine.
Mrs. W. H. McClure showed
slides of Moorhead Derrick
which will be presented with the
entry to Reader’s Digest, in an
effort to earn an award for the
project.
Mrs. A. H. Brown and Mrs.
H. C. Murrie, therapy chairmen,
reported they had helped children
of Opportunity School prepare
Valentines for themselves and
for their mothers.
Arrangement for the day was of
dried materials, prepared by
Mrs. Gilligan and judged a blue
ribbon by Mrs. Robert Morris,
Mrs. Harry Reid and Mrs. Kay.

Often rag rugs used in the
kitchen or bathroom will become
frayed at the fringed edges while
the rest of the rug is still good.
Cut off all the old fringe and
crochet a row of cotton yarn
around the worn sides to give
the rugs new life.

Thinking Day Planned Feb. 22
Senior Girl Scout Troop 5 is
to be in charge of the annual
Thinking Day program which is
to be held Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. in
Purple Sage School auditorium..
The event is in observance of
the birthday of Juliet Lowe,
founder of Girl Scouting.
Troop 15 will be in charge of

troop is urged to have a repre-

Friendship fund, which will help
a deserving Senior Scout attend

Honored With Banquet
Love Makes the World Go
J 'Round was the theme of a ban-
4 quet held Feb. 10 honoring young
people of Belvue Baptist Church.
The event, with Mr. and Mrs.
Leroy Palmer as hosts, was held
in the church Fellowship Room.
Gary Day, a member of the
department, was master of cere,
monies. Invocation was by Ken
Barr, a leader among Belvue
young men. Day introduced Ter-
ry Smith, a Kermit school facul-
ty member, who entertained with
his guitar and accompanied him-
self as he sang several songs.
A humorous but thought-pro-
yoking skit was presented by
