WeigkeJ in tlie Balance
In many ways a bank check is better than
gold coin. Here’s one way to weigh them.
Watch the way the balance tilts:
If Jones paid you what he owes you today
in gold, and Smith gave you a check for his
indebtedness and you put the check and gold
into your pocketbook and then lost the pocket-
book, what wou'd happen? Why, Smith would
notify the hank and issue you another check.
But Jones, who paid you the gold, would
politely decline to pay you a second time. See
the advantage in favor of the cheek?

Report Villa’s Injured Leg Is Growing i Mrs. M. F. Thornal, of Silsbee,
Worse.
Chihuahua City, July 25.—
General Jacinto Trevino, com-
manding the Mexican army
corps of the northeast, an-
nounced today that he had re-
ceived orders from General Car-
ranza to make every possible
effort to pacify and rehabilitate
Northern Mexico.
The first step necessary to
comply with these orders, he
added, is the extermination of
Villa and his bandits and reports
from General Matias Ramos, in
active command of the campaign
in Northern Durango, indicate
that this is on the verge of com-
pletion.
The dispatohes said a heavily
armed and well mounted de-
tachment had been detailed to
capture the bandit leader and
that his scattered followers are
being pursued relentlessly.
Continuing, it was said that
because of his recent hard riding
Villa’s injured leg gives him
great pain, which oauses him to
cry out frequently. No surgeon
is available and he has been
forced to lance it himself with
rude knives several times re-
cently to alleviate the pain.
General Trevino issued a
formal report denying American
reports that he had been sum-
moned to Mexico City and that
either General Luis Herrera or
General Luis Cabelleros had
been appointed to supercede
him.

There are several places about
our city in which the weeds need
outting. Some of these places
are where it is the duty of the
city to see that they are cut and
some of them belong to individ-
uals. An ugly patch of weeds
on a sidewalk or on a vacant lot
will attract the attention of a
stranger to the oity the first time
he passes it and cause him to
comment on it. See that the
weeds are, cut so that every vis-
itor will comment on the clean-
liness of our city when asked
about it.
