Mrs. T. C. Fowler has gone to
Colorado Springs, Colorado,
where she will spend a time with
her daughter, Mrs. E. Stoneham,
who is there for her health, and
is reported as improving in that
salubrious climate. Miss Hallie
Stoneham accompanied Mrs.
Fowler on the trip.
D. J. Stockman, one of the
prosperous and progressive
ranchmen of the Lak6 Victor sec-
tion, spent a day or two here, the
guest of his sister, Mrs. Walter
Mashburn. Mr. Stockman has
been a regular patron of this pa-
per for nearly 20 years and add-
ed to his date while here.

“From exposure I had a cough and
cold combined that nearly put a finish to
me. While looking for something to ease
the irritation that bothered my throat
and lungs, a friend advised “Dr. King’s
New Discovery.” I bought a bottle, the
first dose helped and before the first bot-
tle was used my cold was well. R.

Have You Paid Your Taxes?
Next year will be a year of
elections, and no man who neg-
lects to pay his poll tax before
February 1st, oan vote in any
eleotion which may be held dur-
ing the year 1916. If you send
an order to pay your poll tax by
another, such order must have
revenue stamps to the value of
25 cents affixed to it, as it thus
becomes a power of attorney, and
all such papers are now taxed 25
cents by the internal revenue
laws. Probably it would be the
same with other taxes, and peo-
ple who do business through
others should investigate this
feature before sending by others
to do any character of work
which requires a written order,
as there are penalties fixed for
violations of the internal reve-
nue laws.
If you do not pay your other
taxes before February 1st, a pen-
alty of ten per cent adds itself
without the action of any officer,
and this must be paid simply on
account of such neglect by the
man who owes the taxes. If
such duty is still further neglect-
ed the land or other property
may be brought into the district
court, a judgment obtained and
the land advertised and sold for
taxes. The homestead is not ex-
empt from such action, and it is
well to take advantage of the
time as it passes and pay all
your taxes.
There are other reasons why
taxes should be paid promptly.
The state needs money, the school
fund now being behind so that
teaohers in some parts of the
state are selling their vouchers
for lees than the face value, and
some of the employes of the state
are also discounting their claims.
The city needs money to pay for
the regular expenses, and espe-
