This is the last Sunday the Sosbee-Biffle-Dennis Ferry was to be at the Old Greenwade Crossing on the
Brazos. Miss Edna McElroy and Miss Ethna Goodlet were teachers of the Towash School during this 1914
spring term, when the boat was taking the community children and adults for a last ride.Courthouse in Meridian, built 1886
schools. Before 1900 a school called Grape-
vine existed as a sort of community center,
church, etc. This was on the place recently
sold by the late Gus Grimm. Farther north
was Midway. I have not found out what it was
mid-way between.
Out Highway 22 was a school called Pilot
Knob; a little farther over in Turner's pasture
was one called Turner. It was a preaching
appointment for Methodists, a place for
picnics, ball games, etc. Still farther south,
about Circle 13 Ranch, was Brown School.
West of there almost on the edge of the
prairie, was Garnersville. When these two
schools combined, a new house was built
between these two places and the school was
called Garnersville. It was the last school to
consolidate with Meridian. Part of it went to
Clifton.
On the high bank above the Brazos, west
side, near Greenwade's Crossing, was Walling
Bend School. Today the school bus brings
children to Meridian. (See story on Walling
Bend.)
Dyersville was a community northeast of
town. The school was on land furnished by
J.W. Raines, Sr. There was a windmill and a
tank for water, and brush arbors were used
for summer meetings. When this school wasr
