Mrs. Gaylon Eudy reports her
sister Mrs. Agnes Williams who lives
in Cotherage, Tx. is in very critical
condition. MRs. Eudy siad they were
staying by the telphone for any news.
While visiting Elaine and Joey Har-
rison in Greenville last weekend, Ron
and Penny Graham had a chance to
visit two of Penny’s cousins, Juanet-
ta Pierson and family, also Deana
Dunn. They all dined out together.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Johntown
Missionary Baptist Church went to
DeKalb to the Pinkham Missionary
Baptist Church for the District
meeting. Those attending were: Bro.
and Mrs. Billy Daniels, Mrs. Mildred
Mayfield, Mrs. Oleta McAlaster, Mrs.
Lucille Childers and Mrs. Lee Hood.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Parker made
a trip to Paris Wednesday with Robin
and Kyla Jo Harville shopping.
Mrs. Lee Hood has been accompa-
nying MRs. Florence Pirtle to Talco
for her doctor’s appointments.
Florence broke her wrist when the ice
was on the ground. Florence is hop-
ing to get her cast off Tuesday.
Delores Potter, Frances Thomas
and Mrs. George Green from Mt.
Pleasant spent the day in Kauffman
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Knowles.
MRs. NAdine Rhodes spent from
Tuesday till Friday at Lake Bob

Your Red River County Tax Office is charged with
the responsibility of collecting and disbursing all
County AdValorem Taxes, Issuing Tax Cer-
tificates, Applications for Certificate of Titles,
Motor Vehicle Sales Tax, Automobile Registration
Fees and Beer and Liquor Permits.
In 1967 our Tax Collections were $1,353,840.99, com-
pared to $411,547.21 in my first year of office.
In 1987 we collected $2,720.00 from Tax Cer-
tificates, compared to $896.00
In 1987 we collected $346,668.87 from Motor Vehi-
cle Sales Tax, compared to $231,653.03.
In 1987 we collected $27,330.00 from Certificates
of Titles compared to $8,785.50.
In 1987 we collected $614,983.88 for Automobile
Registrations compared to $299,905.64.
There is a vast amount of traffic and counter work
in this office, plus the time consuming reports to
disburse the monies into the proper funds. This of-
fice is still being operated with 3 hill time deputies,
Suzann Shovan, Chief deputy; Vivian Gould, and
Leslie Nix. All are experienced and very efficient
Veda Farley works part-tiitie and her expertise in
the Tax Office dates back to 1942.
Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mon-
day thru Friday, and we are open during the lunch
hour. In case of an emergency on weekends, I, or
one of my staff, can usually be reached to help you.

Valentine Banquet At Red River Haven
Residents of Red River Haven Nur-
sing Home and their families had a
Valentine Banquet on Monday night,
February >. The room was decorated
in red and white.
The tables were covered with white
cloths centered with red streamers
and bud vases holding red roses.
Each resident wore a red cutout heart
emblem.
A Valentine King and Queen were
elected by the residents. The
nominees were presented by Dr. Jack
Troutt who served as Master of
Ceremonies. They were Ruby White,
Iva Williams, Pearl Moody, Jessie
Hunter and Nona Reppond, James
Hancock and Casey York.,
Jessie Hunter and James Hancock
were crowned king and queen by
Peggy Strain and Casey York.
Donna Robinson and Neva Dell
Burns sang "Let Me Call You
Sweetheart”.
About 35 people had a meal of bak-
ed ham, potato salad, green peas In
sauce, bread, cake and beverage.
Arrangements for the banquet were
made by members of the Family Oon-
cil which meets quarterly. Peggy
Strain serves as president. The next
council meeting will be held in the din-
ing room at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday,
April 13. All interested family
members are urged to attend.

Tommy Anderson ana two otner
children, Jeanie and David were on
a trip to Emerson, Nebraska to visit
Mrs. Anderson’s father, Emil
Sabacky. They returned home Thurs-
day night.
Wendall and Buford Hervey accom-
panied their mother, Mrs. Oda
Hervey to Talco Friday for a doctor’s
appointment.
The local Ladies Auxiliary met
Tueday at the Fellowship Hall at the
Johntown Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lee Hood brought the devotional
and Mrs. Oleta McAlaster taught the
Bible lesson. Seven members were
present for that and the rest of the’
time was spent quilting.
Visiting Mr. and MRs. Travis Watts
since Tuesday is their son, Nelson
Watts from Gun Barrell City. •'Also
Mr. and Mrs. Monty Allums and
TAbatha and Mrs. Thresa Alford had
supper and visited with everyone
Thursday night.
Robert Woodall was overnight
guest of a friend in Bogata Friday
night.
Lori Bush spent Monday and Tues-
day with her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Tommie Cox, while Lori wasn’t
feeling well and couldn’t attend
school.
After attending church Sunday, Mr.
and Mrs. Morns Parker were dinner
gpests of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Harville
and Kyla, celebrating Mrs. Ruby
Parker’s birthday.
Visiting Wednesday night with Mrs.
Lucille Childers were Preston and
Tony Combest and Amber, also Stacy
and Ashley Hendricks from
Pittsburg.
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cox spent
Thursday in Mt. Vernon visiting
Jessie and Betty Evans. They also
visited Mrs. Cox’s niece Betty Jean
and Chuck Young while there.
Mr. Hubert Horn was admitted to
Red River General Hospital Friday
after becoming ill at home. Diane and
Jimmie Spears took him to the
hospital.
Lisa and Angel Wilkerson visited
their grandmother Mrs. Lucille
Childers Saturday.

Exchange Vows
Wynema Faye Watkins became the
bride of John Lloyd English, Jr. in a
single-ring ceremony at 7 p.m. Satur-
day, Jan. 9 at the home of the groom’s
parents. The Rev. Bob Posey, pastor
of the First Baptist Church of Bogata
heard the couple repeat their vows.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John Watkins of Deport. She is
the granddaughter of Susan Jones of
Antlers, OK. The groom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John L. English, Sr. of
Bogata.
Grandparents of the groom are
Opal English and the late Jess
English, Lewis Williams and Lorene
Mays of Bogata. Great-grandmother
is Iva Williams of Red River Haven
Nursing.
The bride was escorted by the
groom’s father and given in marriage
by her family.
For her wedding dress the bride
wore a blue dress with white flowers.
She carried a cascade of baby blue
roses with white carnations, accented
with blue and white lace ribbons, blue
roses and pearls. Her necklace was a
single string of white pearls.
Sherryl Thomas of Deport served
the bride as maid of honor and Lillian
English, sister of the groom was
bridesmaid.
Freddy Booker of Bogata served
the groom as best man. John David
Hudgens served as groomsman.
The groom’s parents were hosts for
the reception following the ceremony.
Annette Hinson, Coletta Tippitt, June
Young and Joyce Rhodes, aunts of the
groom served. The wedding cake was
made by the groom’s aunt, Joyce
Tolison of Clarksville.
The bride is a student of Prairiland
High School and plans to transfer to
Rlvercrest High School . The groom
is a 1987 graduate of Rivercrest High
School and is employed by
Southwestern Construction Company.
He has Joined the U.S. Army Reserve
and leaves for duty April 19.

Boots Roberts were Patsy and Mark
Colins, Patsy and Russell Potts and

Jimmie Duffee from Bogata, Mr. and
MRs. DAvid Potter from Johntown,
all celebrating Boots’ birthday.

ving. She also visited Victor Lynne
and Patsy and Eugene Cox while

telephone call from her daughter
Hazel Lamb in Sunnyville just to visit
and make sure Mrs. Kepler was do-
ing all right.
Johntown community is very pro-
ud to have Russ and Kathy Woodall
and their two sons as members of the
community.
Kathy has been invited to speak at
the Bogata Lioness Club Thurday
night, Feb. 11 in Bogata.
J She is looking forward to making
new friends. Her interests include
reading, she loves people and doing
things outdoors, cooking, singing and
playing the piano.
She likes to help other people, and
to help them understand blindness.
Russ, her husband, loves to work on
small motors. He has had training in
this field.
Eddie Barnard was a dinner guest
Sunday of Buddy Calloway and his
mother Ruby Calloway of AVery.
Mrs. Ruby Parker received several
Birthday call Sunday Wishing her a
Happy Birthday were Ed Pirtle and
family from Beaumont and a friend,
Gladys Bond from Atlanta and Ruth
Calahan from Paris.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brazile and
daughter Savannah visited Mr. and
Mrs. Steve Cecil over the weekend at-
tended Sunday Church Services with
them
Mrs. Lois Cates reports that she is
now the owner of a new security light
at her home.
