NEW A. C. C. SITE SECURED ON
800 ACRES EAST
OF TOWN
(Continued from Pago 1)
C. W. Bacon president of the Abi-
lene Chamber of Commerce who has
worked for several months on raising
the (76000 from Abileno citizens for
the college was tho first to suggest
the new site. Follqwing his sug-
gestion members of tho board to-
gether with President Baxter went
further into tho matter and wero con-
vinccd that tho thing to do was to
sccuro li now. '
Details of the steps to be taken next
havo not been worked out but the
t1 idcu now prevailing is to set apart
what is to be the campus proper and
I then udjoining it on the north a block
' of 100 acre swill bo put into lots and
fsold to private parties. Already oven
before tho announcement of tho con-
sumation of tho transaction has been
made lots totaling $80000 havo been
spoken for both by present and pros-
pective citizens.
Within the next 60 days at least
400 lots will likely bo placed on tho
market and tho encouragement al-
ready extended leads to the belief
that they will bo taken within a few
hours oven.
All public utilities havo already
been secured Including water lights
sewerage and gas.
Tho campus proper will likely be
located fn tho very heart of tho section
secured which is on top of a high
hill overlooking the city. Tho main
building will face the west toward
Abileno according to present pros-
pects which will placo tho business
district in tho uniquo position of being
surrounded on three sides almost
equally distant from town by the
three hleher Institutions of learning
located hero tho main buildings of
which look down upon tho city.
First Developments
Tho administration building and
two dormitories will form tho first
campus development projects on the
east side of which possibly will be
located the athletic field although tho
lay of tho land west is such as to sug
gest a great stadium unequalled ny
any in Texas.
The c'.ty of Abileno owns extensive
acreage on tho creek west of tho tract
the valuo of which it is pointed out
has been vastly increased in the selec-
tion. A street will bo laid out 80 feet
wide from the entrance to the grounds
through to Pino which wll enter Pino
about tho sixth block north.
On the north sido of tho section of
040 acres is tho Bankhead highway
leading to Albany which is included in
tho paving program now being
executed.
Extending through tho block is n
road running north nnd south to
another public road over which tho
thousands of tourists travel annually
offering excellent advertising possi-
bilities to the institution.
West Side First
The west side of the campus will be
first to bo improved and as tho pros-
pective expansion program is carried
out and as demands may determine
tho east side will bo developed.
conditions may advise.
Through the decision thu courso of
the city has been turned from iu
tendency to becomo a "string-town1'
to ono fully developed on all sides a
member of tho board pointed out
Saturday.
Ono of the interesting disclosures
in securing the plot was a statement
by Rev. Griffith who said that Mrs.
Miler's father a Mr. Adams many
years ngo foresaw the growth of A.
C. C. and predicted that it would bo
located on tho site now assured.
Definite Plans Soon
The work of developing tho sito will
be inaugurated as soon as tho definite
plans can be determined upon. In tho
meantime the next session will be con
ducted without any confusion what-
soever at its present location in the
West part of tho residential district
and about a half a milo from tho busi
ness district
Just what is to be done with the
old campus and buildings now used
will have to be determined by the
futuro courso of events authorities
of tho collego state. It is known that
tho Academy will remain where it is
at least for several years.
The work of constructing a (150000
or larger administration building may
be under way before tho end of fall.
New dormitories will follow immedi
ately.
Through tho work done by tho
board President Baxter and his co-
workers the institution will be able
to reserve a campus of a hundred
acres sell off lots sufficient to pay
for the buildings needed at present
and still have several hundreds of
valuable acres left for futuro needs
endowment or whatever course may
be decided upon.
The selection of the site suggests
the action of founders of T. C. U. S.
M. U. nnd other flourishing Institu-
tions elsewhere which when they were
built were constructed after clearing
nway growing crops of cotton and
corn. Now tho cities In which thoy
are located have gono out to surround
them immensely increasing property
values. The difference is that in this
case A. C. C. has a larger body to
start with than cither of thoso men-
tioned nnd provides ono of the largest
campus sites in nil tho southwest.

WILDCATS FOOTBALL PROSPECT
FOR THIS SEASON BRIGHT-
EST IN YEARS
(Continued from page 1)
Robinson and Hawkins lettcrmen
are having tho fight of their lives to
hold down a place on tho first cloven.
Both of these men were in tho back-
field last year but the new freshman
material seems to bo pushing them out
of their plnces.
The lino will bo stronger than ever
before. With three All-Conference
men playing on it opposing elevens
will find the going much rougher than
Inst year. In the season just past
very few teams could gain over that
obstacle. From tackle to tackle it will
average around n hundred and eighty-
five or ninety pounds of fighting
brawn. At any rate it will be heavy
and fast enough to hold the best in
the T. I A. A.
Although pre-senson dope has al
ways proved incnosistcnt in tho past
it looks as if the jinx will be dropped
this fall for never hnve tho Wildcat
prospects been more rosy. Maybo it
won't be a championship eleven but
the Morris machine will bo no set up
for any of tho opposing conference
elevens.
The first yell practice of the year
was held in the auditorium Tuesday
evening. Mitchell gathered in tho
first year students nnd with tho aid
of the old ones succeeded in instill-
ing some of the old pep in them.
