Senate approves $2800 for projector
The Student Senate approved the
charter of Centurions the new men's
social club Monday night but the ap-
proval is dependent upon clarification of a
clause by L.D. Hilton vice president of
finance.
The proposed constitution had
authorized the club treasurer to establish
and maintain a checking account with a -local
bank. A question was raised con-
cerning whether or not social clubs are
required to handle their funds through the
ACU business office.
Danny Mann Centurions president
agreed to check with Hilton on the issue
and present his findings to Senate next
Monday.
Another change was also made in the
club's proposed constitution before it was
approved. A section dealing with pledges
was dropped because it stated that
pledging rules would be decided at a later
date.
Senate approval officially recognizes
Centurions as a campus organization and
clears the way for Inter-Social Club
Council acceptance of the club.
In other action the Senate voted $2800
for the purchase of a new film projector
with Cinemascope lens. The retail price of
the projector is $3500.
Holifield explained that the SA could
replace its present projector for about
.$2000 but the Senate voted to buy
another projector.
"If Senate is going to continue showing
top quality films we need top quality
equipment" said Betsy Horton
sophomore secretary.
The new projector should arrive in four
weeks. It will be used for films shown in
Cullen Auditorium where the distance to
the screen makes a higher-intensity
projector more desirable.
It also will be used in combination with
the SA's current projector to eliminate
pauses to change film reels.
Also the Senate approved $1000 for an
electronic scoreboard for the intramural
department. Intramural director Cecil
Eager estimated the scoreboard would
last about 10 years.
"That's pretty cheap when you consider
the number of games it will be used for"
he said.
The scoreboard will be permanently
mounted in the double gym in the Gibson
P.E. Center along with another'-jw-.;'
scoreDoara Deing purcnasea jor tne in-
tramural program and it will be used for
basketball and volleyball games.
Approximately 900 students par-
ticipated in these sports last year.
The annual intramural budget is $1000.
Junior senator Danny Beasley com-
mented "It's interesting to note how
much money the athletic department has
and how small a percentage of it goes to
where students are the most involved."
The funding by Senate was made
dependent on three factors. The in-
tramural department must find enough
money from other sources to purchase the
second scoreboard install wire caging
being placed around the scoreboards and
purchase the scoreboard by Dec. 1.
Eager said he had "scraped together"
$700 already for the second. scoreboards -J

In other business junior senators John
Tyson and Danny Beasley were appointed
to investigate the feasibility of extending
Campus Center hours. They are to report
their findings next Monday.
Also a motion to postpone Rivalry Day
until Dec. 1 was defeated. Rivalry Day will
be Saturday as scheduled with senior
Chuck Locke in charge.
Tardy Kerry Wilson Tracy Huebner.
