address what we see as issues ol
the general community not pist
with Howard Payne." Jones said
The show will leatute a dil-
fcrent guest every week tanging
from employees ol the city to
local politicians.
"We're going to covet the
gamut; we'te not going to limit
ourselves to any p.uticulai
group" Jones said. "We'll like to
gel some people tiom all walks
not just Brownwood city. We'd
like to gel some people lioiii

a gooil balance in the course

ple that (are taking TV Activities
as) their first course hopefully it
will interest them and excite

Zeta Zeta Zeta calls second 'HPU Idol7 show a success
By Karen Vendsel
YJ Staff Reporter
Hack by popular demand. Zeta
Zeta Zeta presented the HPU Idol
competition this past Friday
January M) in Minis Auditorium.
Taking home the winning prize of
$50.00 was freshman Bethany
Russo.
I his years lll'U Idol competi-
tion had great talent and a Inn
active audience.
"We had a great turnout this
year" said Shannon Brewei. Public
Relations Officer tor Tri-Zela. "I
don't know the exact number bin
we had such a quality audience.
They were so willing to get up on
stage and take a stab at the prize or
just get up there and goof around to
see just how much reaction they
could gel. There were also some
really amazing talents and I look for-
ward to seeing them use that gift
some more in the future."
Starting the evening Tri-Zela
had made a mock video of some
unforgettable previous American
Idol-style auditions.
"As the contestants entered
into Minis they saw our HPU Idol
tryouts video which the members of
Zeta had filmed at our meeting last
Wednesday." Biewei said "It was
pretty interesting to watch us make
tools out ol ourselves I he tapes had
a lot ol humor horn the eta git Is
who have been vvoiking to icplicate
some ol the old audition lavontcs
from the show itsell. Iheie vveie
also be some contestants out iheie
solely to throw the judges lor a
loop."
'Die mam Judge loi lll'U Idol
was Tree Cooper. Helping Cooper
was recently appointed In eta beau
Stephen Lock and a vohinteei tiesli
man who showed up to help at the
last minute.
"We had Tree C'oopei do a
lepeat performance of Simon that
was just as funny Ibis year as last"
Brewer said. "At this year's HPU
Idol he started playing poker with
the other judges and ended up strip-
ping his shoes and coat and over-
shirt. It was quite funny tor the audi-
ence and pretty distracting for the
performer at the time I'm sure.
Stephen Lock has only been in Zeta
lor this semester and was already a
good enough sport to get up on stage
and lepresenl the organization. He
played with Tree during some of the
acts even recreating the scene of
Jack and Rose on the Titanic. Our
last judge was a freshman girl
named Nikki. She was really sweet
and signed up to help us out as a stu-
dent representative just hours before
the show. She was such a good sport
too throwing out comments to the
interacts and encouraging those who
put their heart into it to keep trying."
By hosting HPU Idol Zeta
hopes to bring unity to the student
body for an evening as well as pro-
vide entertainment for all of the
HPU family.
"As a social spirit sorority"
Brewer said "school unity is very
important to us and so when we
plan events for the school wc want
them to be fun for everyone."
