Howard Payne extends

Youth Ministry Masters
Global Warming
by Rebekah Green

In the fall of 2006 Howard
Payne University will offer a new
Master of Arts degree in Youth
Ministry.
HPU is the only Baptist uni-
versity in Texas to offer an
undergraduate degree in Youth
Ministry and this program was
chosen because the university
feels it has been such a suc-
cess. "Howard Payne has a great
heritage of Youth Ministers" said
Dr. Gary Gramling dean of the
School of Christian Studies who
added that there are HPU alum-
ni serving as Youth Ministers at
over 200 Texas churches. "We
feel it's a logical next step to pro-
vide a graduate program."
The program does not require
students to live in Brownwood
and the university hopes this
will make it more accessible to
students around the state.
HPU will begin receiving appli-
cations on March 1 .
"We have several prospective
students who have expressed
interest.but we're waiting to see
who our applicants will be" said
Gramling.

is successful Howard Payne

Valentine's Day is fast
approaching and Howard Payne
students have several possible
ways to celebrate the occasion.
Delta Chi Rho will be selling
singing telegrams and roses to
be delivered on Valentine's Day
through the tenth in the in the
Mabee Center.
"We're doing it as a fundraiser
for our sorority. It's convenient
for students and it's fun" said
Danielle Harrell who is a junior
and a psychology major from
Littlefield Texas.
A Sweetheart Dinner will be
held in the Beadle Dining Hall at
which a special Valentine's Day
menu will be served and the
Student Activities Council will be
hosting a movie night at Wallace
Theaters in Heartland Mall.
The holiday is significant for
many students.
"I'm really excited because
this is my first Valentine's Day
to have a boyfriend" said fresh-
man Heather Hieshetter a pre-
law major from Rio Rancho
New Mexico who added that
she plans to go out to eat with
her boyfriend and then hang out
and exchange Valentine cards
with her friends.
Other students are not as sure
what they will be doing.
"I don't really have any plans
except with chocolate so I'll
probably go to movie night"
said Shawna Brewster a fresh-
man art major from Santa Anna
Texas.
