Miss Delno' Secretary
Behind ACC President
by ELIZABETH ROSS
It hns been said "Ilehlntl every
great mun there nro two women
his wife and his secretary." Mrs.
J. W. Itoberts Is n groat man's
secretary; sho Is Inconspicuous
and humble but always there.
In her seml-executlve position as
secretary to Don II. Morris pres-
ident of ACC Mrs. Roberts serves
as "womnn-behlnd-the-Bccnes" In
nearly nil ndmlnistrntvlc process
es.
With seemingly boundless ener-
gy and an ever-ready smile "Miss
Delno" as flhe Is known to the
school officials performs such
tasks ns compiling the board re-
port arranging travel schedules
conducting research for Inquiries
and acting ns chief receptionist
and guided tnur agent for visitors
to the campus. The kcynnto to
her duties says Mrs. Roberts Is
that she does "everything ns far
as I can though llttlo goes out
without President Morris' O.K."
And her work certainly hns tho

approval ot ACC President Don
'orris. He says "A secretary It)
n position llko Mrs. Roberts' must
perform dozens of chores for tho
office Itself and at '.he samo time
receive requests from all the de-
partments of tho college and must
furnish Information for visitors on
tho campus and other friends.
Mrs. Roberts is efficient In all
these taBks and I believe Is one
of tho hardest workers on our
campus."
Hor hard work day begins ear-
ly In the morning. Since sho does
In- own washing and Ironing for
her fnmlly of four Mrs Roberts
often rises early to Iron a llttlo
before fixing breakfast for her
professor-husband J. W. Roberts
nnd her two children Kathy and
Jny. Ironing is not such tedious
wo.rk for "Miss Delno"; for exam-
ple she can Iron nnd fold a white
shirt In ten minutes.
Her quickness and efficiency
hnvo brought order to tho presi-
dent's office since August 1953
when she and her husband came
to ACC. Concerning her Job here
Mtb. Roborts says "It Is most en-
joyable. Resides tho personal ele-
ment of working closely with the
administration I get to see nnd
know the very best people there
are the friends of the school and
the parents of tho students."
Her college- days activities and
honors Include membership In
Phi Thcta. Kappa Junior College
Honorary Society Alpha Chi nnd
"W" Club. She was graduated with
tho highest average among Summa
Cum Lnude graduates.
Now she Is continuing her car-
eer nt ABC In her capacity ns
secretary to tho president. There
nro busier times during the year
when tho entire organization Is nn
uproar times like opening of
school lectureship homecoming
graduation and board meetings.
Rut "Miss Delno" keeps every-
thing running smoothly.
"MIhb Delno" Roberts Is not
president of ACC but she certain-
ly helps.

Over all acclaim greeted each
performance of Marca Leo Ilryant
In the title role of Lnkme. This
opinion camo not only from .pro-
fessional musicians but also from
tho general public.
Enchanting tho audienco from
tho beginning to end with her
beauty along with hor vocal Pro-
duction Miss Bryant reached tho
high point of the opera In tho
second act when sho sang tho
"Bell Song" a very high and flex-
iblo aria which she handled excep
tionally well. It wan followed by
thunderous npplause each evening.
Jim Storks powerful and con-
vincing portrayal of the high
priest Nliikantha wan extremely
effective and nearod professional
ability.
Tommy Carter wns graceful and
consistent in his handling of the''
tenor lend Gerald although ho
did not come into a full realization
of his vocal powers until the last
performance.
Tho acting was very good in tho
three principal roleB with Miss
Bryant carrying tho burden of tho
acting.
Having dialogue in tho produc-
tion weakened the over-all ef-
fect. As a result tho opera did
not havo tho dramatic build that
an opera usually has.
Numerous weaknesses wero
shown in tho roles by the minor
diameters. Theso Included: inton-
ation faulty vocal entrances awk-
ward gestures poor vocal pro-
jection and Incompetent acting.
This may bo duo to tho fact that
this was tho first opera for moot
of them and I believe we dan
look forwnrd to fSotter perform-
ances with more oxperienco nnd
confidence.
Mary Lou Hornbakor's nctlm;
ability was outstanding in her
portrayal ot tho minor rolo Mm.
Benson.
Tho P.A. System was very pocr
In somo places making hearing
sometime difficult. This was es-
pecially difficult.. This was truo
peclally truo when tho chorus
sang backstago.
The chorus did a very good Job
especially in tho beginning of tho
second act.
Mis Collier did a superb Job
of tho directing and Lewis Fulkn
did a very nlco Job of designing
the sets. However I felt tho sec-
ond act setting wns very weak.
As a wholo tho opera was a
magnificent production and ex-
tremely effecting in showing tho
tnlont wo havo on tho campus.
