ACLTs debate team takes fourth
(at Trinity's forensic tournament
ACU's speech and debate team took
fourth place in sweepstakes com-
petition and gathered several in-
dividual awards at Trinity University's
South Texas Intercollegate Fall
Championship Forensic Tournament
this past weekend
Jeff Peterson a freshman Greek
major from Galena Park placed first
and won the outstanding novice award
in persuasivespcaklng.
Jeff Connor senior oral com-
munication major from Andrews and
J.C. Bailey a junior from Fort Worth
placed first in Debate CEDA com-
petition. Peterson and Bob Baldwin a
senior oral communication major from
Henderson placed fifth.
Three of the four earned individual
speaker awards in debate. Connor
placed second; BaileyT fourth; and
Baldwin sixth
Baldwin won the outstanding novice
award for rhetorical criticism.
The team rccicvcd six trophies at the
tournament. Trophies were awarded
for both of the outstanding novice
awards the first places in debate and
persuasive speaking and second and
fourth place individual speaker
awards.
Texas A&I University placed first in
the tournament San Jacinto Univer-
sity second and Southwest Texas State
University third.
The team's next tournament will take
place at Central State University in
Edmond. Okla. Nov. 12-13.
