Reagan pockets diamond
President Ronald Reagan may never
be seen wearing red and while but he
now owns a G ATA pledge tag.
President Reagan was given a GATA
diamond pledge tag last week said
pledge Ton! Cryer a sophomore music
and : business administration major
from Irving. .
Cryer said she gave the tag to Reagan
at q private reception immediately
after his Oct. 1 1 speech at a Republican
rally at U.S. Senate candidate Jim
Collins ranch in Irving.
She said the president shook her hand
then she gave him the pledge tag. Cryer
said she told Reagan she attended
Abilene Christian University and that
the GATA diamond was a club Insignia
Cryer then told him the lag was a
token of appreciation of what he has
done for our country and our future
"I told him it was an honor to meet
him and then he put the tag in his left
breast pocket and told me It was an
honor to meet me. Then he patted me on
the shoulder." said Cryer "It was two
minutes that I will never forget."
Cryer said she went to the reception
which required a telegram invitation
from the White House with a personal
friend of the president
It Is a GATA tradition to leave the tag
with famous people or at famous
places she said. There arc GATA
diamonds In Tokyo. Rio de Janeiro and
at the Eiffel Tower in Paris said Cryer.
Also country singer Eddie Rabbit has
one
Cryer said since giving her tag to
President Reagan she has not been
required to wear one.
"I'm looking forward to Oct :il when
I hope to give one each to Kenny Rogers
and Larry Gatlin at Reunion Arena I
have a backstage pass for their con-
cert she said.

elect new officers
plan year's activities
This year's officers for the Data
Processing Management Society nnd the
American Marketing Society have been
selected.
DPMS officers arc president. Jim
McKissick senior computer science major
from Abilene: vice president. Cliff
Rhoden. junior computer science major
from San Angelo; treasurer. Mike Casey.
senior computer sciene major from
Klngswood: and secretary. Lisa Flannery.
sophomore computer science major from
Houston.
AMA officers are president Robin Igo.
senior marketing major from Lubbock
and secretary. Lana Hall junior
marketing major from Jasper
McKissick said ACU's chapter of DPMS
has 55 members and plans to have many
activities this year
"Wo are working to get Gene Stalllngs
from the Dallas Cowboys to come and
speak on how computers relate to a
professional football team" said
McKissick. Stalllngs was scheduled to
speak earlier this month but could not
make the engagement he said.
The club also is planning to help the Dig
Country chapter of DPMS with the annual
Christmas dinner said McKissick.
DPMS has more than .15.000 members
worldwide. McKissick said. It is a good
organization for marketing contacts in
Abilene and other large cities he said.
The AMA Trade Show will be In Dallas
Nov 5. said Steve Gilbert senior ac-
counting major from Oklahoma City and
editor of DA Council News. Any member of
ACf's chapter is eligible to attend said
Gilbert.

left Thursday to attend the International
Meeting of the American Business
Communication Association in New
Orleans. i
The meeting's two-fold purpose Is to
keep up with the direction of business
communication and to meet the
authorities in the field. Ewlng said.
