Basketball Survey
Discovers Reasons
By Debbie Elliott
Student support of the H-SU
Basketball team has hit another
low. In an attempt to discover
the causes of the small student
attendance at home games the
Brand conducted a survey of 50
students chosen at random.
These students were asked "Do
you attend Cowboy basketball
games? Why or why not?"
The results of the survey fol-
low: 1. I attend most home games.
Twenty-two of those ques-
tioned answered yes. Larry
Fanning junior said "I
haven't missed a game in three
years." David Cobos answered
"Even if there comes a time
when nobody else supports our
team the Cowboy Band always
will." "Even though I've got
other things to do I sacrifice
them to see our games" said
Deborah Presswood. The most
unusual reply came from
Karen Williams freshman. "I
love watching us try to win"
she said.
2. I do not attend basketball
games.
(A) I do not have transporta-
tion. Fourteen students answered
that they had no transporta-
tion. Jackie Doty said "It's re-
ally a waste of gas to drive all
the way out to the Coliseum
from campus. Why aren't our
games on campus?"
(B) I am not interested in bas-
ketball. Four students gave this ans-
wer. Kay McBeth said "I've
only been to one game this
year."
(C) I work.
Only three of those questioned

Presidential
Elections
Begin March 5
As the month of March begins
tomorrow so begins the annual
political season at H-SU. Three
consecutive elections are com-
ing up on campus the Student
Congress Presidential election
the Rodeo Sweetheart Election
and the All-School Election.
Petitions for the Presidential
election may be picked up at the
Student Life Office beginning
March 5. Theymust be returned
to the office by 4:30 p.m. on
March 4 with 50 signatures.
Active campaigning will
begin at 10 p.m. on March 9 with
the election on March 18.
Petitions for the Rodeo
Sweetheart will go out on March
10 and will need to be turned in
by March 11. The elction for
Rodeo Sweetheart will be on
March 20.
Petitions from the All-School
Election will also go out on
March 10. This election includes
Student Congress executive of-
ficers and representatives class
officers and varsity cheerlead-
ers. Those petitions will need to be
turned in by March 20 The elec-
tion will be held on April 9.
said that they had to work.
(D) I have too many other
things to do.
Five people answered this way.
"I've got better things to do
than go to basketball games"
replied Belinda Allen.
(E) I don't want to watch a los-
ing team.
Only two people responded in
this manner. "I'd probably go if
the team won a few more
games" said Barbara Allen
freshman.
The most profound reason for
non-interest in basketball
comes from Dale Carter a junior
political science major. "I think
the Cowboys in many instances
have been forced to play teams
way over their heads- Pan Am
for instance. There is little hope
for victory so little interest is
displayed. Too there is the fact
that because we are in an inde-
pendent division we have no
trophy orhonors to win- thus it
does not particularly make any
difference as to whether we win
or not. The basketball program
as it is now holds no interest to
me.
Just as a personal comment
I'd like to let the readers know
how I feel about our Cowboys.
I've never seen a group of guys
that have worked harder and
never given up in spite of all
their tough breaks and be-
lieve me the Cowboys have had
some bad ones. I just want to say
thanks to them for trying.
