By Larry Fanning
For several years now tradi
tion has dictated that Sigma win
the intramural flag football
crown. During my four years at
Hardin-Simmons Sigma has
lost only two games. It looked
like the same old story again
this year after they whipped
previously undefeated Family.
Enter the Pilgrims. Though
Family had already beaten
them they came on to deal
Sigma a tough 8-7 loss.
At deadline time it appears
that these teams will be locked
in a three-way tie for the champ-
ionship. If such a tie occurs a
playoff will be held next week
with games being played at five
on Monday and Tuesday after
noons. The teams will flip a coin
to see who plays in the first con-
test. The winner of that game
will play the remaining team on
Tuesday for all the marbles.
Both games should be highly
competitive with Sigma want-
ing to keep tradition alive Fam-
ily wanting to win badly after
three years of frustration and
the Pilgrims desiring to make
their first year in flag football a
big success.
In women's intramural ac
tion Pemmos won the volleyball
championship by defeating Tri
Phi 15-3 15-10. Tri Phi won the
right to play Pemmo's by defeat
ing Eata Bita Pi 15-9 15-11.

games in comfortable surround-
ings. "Of course we would rather
play on campus because it
would not take as long to get to
the games. Students could be
studying in the library walk
over to the gym for the game and
be back to their books in an
hour-and-a-half. As it is now
students must spend about 30
minutes going to and from the
games" Berry explained.
Rose does have its disadvan-
tages namely dead spots in the
floor an unpredictable clock and
shoddy dressing rooms. This
should all be fixed when the new
athletic complex is completed.
Halloween Open
Golf Team
Travels to
San Antonio
The H-SU golf team will be
leaving Sunday morning for the
annual Trinity University Golf
Tournament held Oct. 27-28 in
San Antonio at the Pecan Valley
Country Club. The Tournament
will start at 8 a.m. Monday and
will consist of five-player college
teams from across the state.
This golf course is one of the best
in Texas.
Coach Jeff Goodin says "If we
can be in he top five I will be
happy because the other teams
are real good. If Paul Blackerby
plays well then he could win the
individual competition."

M-HB Contest
The Hardin-Simmons soccei:

the students and faculty who
showed up for the scheduled

a schedule conflict and was un-
able to come to H-SU. The game
may be rescheduled later in the
season and the next home game
will be played Nov. 22 against
Texas at Permian Basin at 1:00

Faculty Cagers
Host ACC (Wow!)
The Hardin-Simmons faculty basketball team will host a
similar team from Abilene Christian College Tuesday Oct. 28
in a 7:30 p.m. game in Rose Field House.
This will be a regulation game with official officials and
everything (big deal). Admission is free to those who wish to be
admitted but no refreshments will be available for those who
wish to be refreshed.
The H-SU team consists of would-be athletes from several
departments on campus. Team members are Ed Hewitt math;
Doug Smith baseball coach; B. W. Aston history; Dan Cooper
sociology; David Funderburk history; Tom Murphree physi-
cal education; Ernie Anderson physical education and Dick
Davis journalism.
If you miss this game you won't miss a thing. But if you
watch well it sure beats studying.
