Be Careful of Political Spy-Hunters
As a people, too, we might be warned lhat in this political
year which coincides with “the present emergency” there'
■re going to be politicians who will stoop to the i^use of at-
tempting to lead the people on spy-hunts in an effort to prove
ffeeir own patriotism. We would hate to think such things can
happen in Texas, but we are very much afraid that some of
the warnings about “fifth column activities" that we
have heard the past few days have been inspired by politics
rather than patriotism.
We would not be surprised if it turns out that some of
the spy-hunts led by political candidates in Texas turn out
to be snipe-hunts and the people are left holding the sack.

California Creek District Approved
Approval of the projiosed California Creek Soil Conser-
vation District by the landowners in Saturday’s flexion was
■ victory for the forces of progress in this area. The vote was
large enough to impress the state board wdth the interest of
the people of the district. The majority was overwhelming
enough to be cbttvineing.
Congratulations are in order for the committee of farm-
ers and business men who worked tirelessly and even had to
yd their own money to bear the expense of the election,
1fce state having failed to provide the requird funds. If the
