ists Colony at Estcs Park Colorado
during this summer. Miss Hobgood
'dean of Fino Arts in this school will

school and will also do somo studying.
Miss Nanlou Balrd of tho piano de-
partment will also attend. Miss
Mary Cooper of tho public speaking
department will also attend. Miss
Mary Head hostess of Smith Hall Is
tho fourth member of the Simmons
group.
Much Interest Is being centered
on tho special car that will leave
Abllcno Juno 21 for tho Estes Park
Colony located In a beautiful spot
near Denver. Tho Rock Island Rail-
road has charge of Texas transporta-
tion for Texas this year. The car
leaving Abilene will be a part of the
special Rock Island train to bo mado
up at Ft. Worth en route for Denver.
A great crowd of Texas art students
will bo on tho train which will go
through to Denver from where tho
passengers will bo carried to Estes
Park In stage coaches.
Estes Park Art Colony a perma-
nent college of Fino Arts is planning
their most successful term of work
for this summer. Twelve of tho most
outstanding teachers of speech arts
authors playwrights and stago direct-
ors of America will teach and lecture
hero during tho three monts summer
term. Oliver Hensdcll a pupil of
David Belasco and manager of the
Little Theatre of Dallas who for twb
consecutive years with his Dallas
troup has won tho loving cup for
staging tho best play In New York
City will bo an instructor here. Other
members of tho faculty are Miss Jes-

as seeking pardon for inmates in tho
penitentiary not worthy of executive
clemency."

WHY ASKED PARDON
President Sandofer when inter-
viewed by a reporter on a local city
paper concerning his reason for
recommending a pardon for Clifford
Simmons of Wichita Falls which par-
don was granted by Governor Fer-
guson Juno. 4 gayo tho following
statement defending his notion;
"Our records show that young Mr
Simmons cntorcd Simmons College
in September 1921 and was a student
hero two years and ono pummor"
President Sandefer's statement read:
"His record was. A and A plus on all
work and thero was no demerit mark
of any kind appearing against him
during his timo as a student here.
Ho was 18 years of ago when he
left here according to our records.
His ambition was to finish hero and
tako a graduate degree in Columbia
University. '
"Ho got into trouble over somo
cold checks in a town whero ho had
tho penitentiary.
"I congratulate you upon your
achievements young people" ho con-
cluded. "I urge you to keep your
eyes on tho heights which God points
out for you and you will bo worthy
of tho great institution which has af-
forded you this privilege aud of your-
self." President Sandefer trrged the
graduates to bo worthy of their
alma mater all through lifo' and then
presented tho degrees to tho sixty
students who have completed their
requirements.
Dean Julius Olson presented the
Julius Nelson Olson medal for "the
highest stand mado by a student
during four years in the college and
who has not for any reason received
a single demerit and has been punc-
tual and prompt in the work to Miss
Bennio LceRoy Speck of Lamesa.
During tho thirteen years that Dean
Olsen has given this medal two boys
and eleven girls have received It.
Tho Judge Atwell medal for the
best essay on "The Lights that Never
Fail" was awarded to Cora Gooch
of Abilene. The medal given by the
Minter Dry Goods company for 'the
highest average during the year went
to Dorothy Anderson.
Students who recleved degrees with
tho honor of "magna cum laude"
which means an average of 90 to 95
