' Speedier However
Led by nino letter men nnd two

ball at Simmons Coach Cranfill is
non-commitnl in regard to prospects

' years a' bunch of young hustlers and
tho offensivo punch looks good."
A snappy scrlmmago was con-
ducted under tho floodlights Tuesday
night accompanied by pin borrowing
nnd other antics by tho unfortunato

largo crowd of students turned out to
show that they wcro ready to wit-
ness a football game.

played with Texas University knt
Austin October 3 Cranfill stated "Ac-
cording to dope we don't ihavo a
chance in the world but we haven't
given up by nny means nnd there may
bo a surprise in tho score."
Besides tho Texas gamo tho Cow-
boys nro slated to meet Texas Chris-

Fans lucky enough to see the Simmons-Daniel
Baker game Friday
night saw n light but speedy and
fighting Cowboy team batter tho
Goats off their feet though tho scoro
was only 0-0 In tho Cowhands favor.
Tho touchdown came In the fourth
quarter after a sustained drive from

made but not chnlked up. Big Carl
Peo got looso in tho third qunrtcr
and fought his way all over the field
to tally but an error on tho port of
myopic Mr. Payne robbed him of it.
Steve Marshall made the touchdown
that was allowed.
Tho Cowboy starting olovon
weighed about ten pounds less to tho
man thnn did tho team last year but
tho weight was sacrificed in the name
of sweet speed which paid off. For

Simmons University received na-
tional publicity this last week when
tho famous feature "Bellevo It Or
Not" edited by Robert Ripley carried
a picturo of tho headstone on "Dam-
It's" grave.
The feature was released in the
issue of Sept 10 nnd was carried in
over two hundred of tho leading papers
of tho United States.
"Dam-It" was a collepj mascot in
days gone by. Ho is re; itcd to have
been extraordinarily smart Intelligent
and what not. Ho met classes more
regularly than tho best of students of
his time and was noted for never
going to sleep in class. A holiday was
declared when he died in 1921 and
tho entire school joined in tho burial
ceremonies.

Mary Frances Waxed
Elizabeth Britt Falls
Incoming roomers to Mary Frances
Hall found upon their arrival that
the old hall had undergone several
changes nil for the better. Tho floors
have been waxed tho wnll3 of the
halls and tho rooms calcimincd and
painted and everything tidied up in
general.
Whether it was trje fault of tho
decorators or something else has
not been determined yet but tho re-
port comes that Elizabeth Britt was
tho first casualty of the season. Miss
Britt suffered very minor bruises and
sprains occasioned by a fall in the
front parlor of the hall. Somo say
that she slid on the highly polished
floor.
A new piano has been purchased
and tho radio has been retained to
satisfy that urge for musical expres-
sion. There are 75 girls staying in Mnry
Frances 40 of them former students
nnd 35 new students.
