mittee at the Southwestern Journalism Congress in Dallas last week-end. He was elected vice-president
of the Southwestern Students' Press Club. Other delegates in the picture are from Oklahoma
University.

McPherson Elected Veep
Thirteen H-SU students return-
ed to the campus Saturday night
from the meeting of the South-
western Journalism Congress
in Dallas with vice-presidential
honors accorded one of their
delegation.
David McPherson BRAND edi-
tor was chosen vice-president of
the Southwestern Students' Press
Club which is the student section
of the Congress.
Dr. Freeman Beets registrar
and temporary head of the jour-
nalism department was sponsor
of the trip.
He stated "We feel that this
is quite an honor to come to
H-SU since we are by far the
smallest school in the Congress."

University Texas Christian Uni-
versity Houston University Bay-
lor University North Texas State

Oklahoma University was the
only other school with a vice-
presidential candidate.
Joe Tindel Texas A & M is
president of the Press Club. It is
traditional for the host school for
the next year to be president and
the Congress decided to go to
Texas A & M in 1957.
J. B. Cue Oklahoma A &M was
elected secretary.

McPherson was also chairman
of the Press Club Resolutions
Committee whiph passed two
policy statement resolutions.
The first was a resolution call-
ing for freedom of the college
press to comment editorialy on
state and national issues and on
the college administration.
This resolution was provoked
indirectly by the controversy be-
tween the Daily Texan and the
Board of Regents of Texas Uni-
versity. Delegates emphasized
that their stand was not a direct
commendation of Willie Morris

LSB Hears Solos
And Testimonies

The Life Service Band open-
ed its meeting last Tuesday even-
ing with a hearty "Preach
Christ" led by song leader R. B.
Hall. This same spirit remained
throughout the hour with inspir-
ing testimonies solos group sing-
ing and topped bya soul stirring
challenge delivered by Charles
Massegee. '
Reports were given by: Ger-
ald Petree extension chairman;
Bob Hayes mission chairman;
and Shirley Saffle secretary. All
three had a good report to give.
Those giving their testimony
were: Glen Grosdidier Leatrice
Davis and Bill Bearden. The
solos were given by Neal Smith
and Dorothy Stevenson.
Following the testimonies and
solos there was a long period of
outstanding congregational sing-
ing. Song leader R.B. Hall said
"It was the best singing I'v ever
heard." He also stated that we
intend to have a lot of singing
every meeting.
"We stil have Jesus with us"
was Charles Massagee's chal-
lenging thought." He said that
"just bepause our Religious Focus
Week is over is no sign that the
Master of those mountain top ex-
periences is gone but should be
even more real to us."
State BSU Choir
Requires Registration
Hardin-Simmons students who
wish to apply for the BSU Choir
must fill out their application
blanks as soon as possible ac-
cording to announcement from
Mr. Truett Sheriff's office. The
blanks are now available in the
Director of Religious Activities
office on the first fldor of Mary
Frances Hall.
"All applications from students
here on the campus must be in
by this afternoon at closing time
which is 5:00 p. m." stated Mr.
Sheriff.
There will not be a State BSU
choir tour this summer as there
has been in the past. "However"
commented Sheriff "they need
the expert enthusiasm of the stu-
dents so that there will be a
choir of excellent quality at Lath-
am Springs."
Wes Forbes will direct the
choir.

After winning the Girls' Bas-
ketball Championship with a per-
fect' slate Behrens Hall capped
an undefeated season by downing
the All-Stars 34-22. s
Wanda Roman took scoring
honors for the game with 20
points. All-Star guard Lyndell
Sinclair grabbed honors for the
losers with 14 points.
Comprising the All-Star squad
was a guard and forward from
each of the losing teams.
