students and one faculty member
decided to try out the old idiom
of "two can live as cheaply as
one" by getting married recently.
Intramural Bowling
Leagues Being Formed
Intramural bowling leagues
are being formed by Philip
Tinsworth director of men's
iniramurals Claude Hicks di-
rector of the Student Center
announced.
"Students wishing to com-
pete in intramurals are urged
to contact Tinsworth" Hicks
said. He encouraged campus
organizations and clubs to form
teams and bowl in the leagues.
Baugh Named to
NFL Hall of Fame
Samuel Adrian Baugh former
H-SU football coach was named
as one of the 17 charter members
of the National Football League
Hall of Fame.
Sammy Baugh came to H-SU
in 1953 and took over as head
coach in 1955. During that
five year tenure he led the Cow-
boys to a Border Conference
championship and compiled a
23-27 record.

Faculty Staff Hold
Family Night Party
Faculty and staff members had
a Family Night party Friday
Jan. 25 in the H-SU Student
Center according to Claude
Hicks Student Center director.
A buffet diner was served and
games of various kind were
played following the dinner.
Hicks said it is planned to have
similar programs periodically at
times when most students are
away from the campus.

After the ceremony the couple
travelled to Lubbock where they

Tahoka senior were married by
her father the Rev. O. D. Carpen-
ter Jan. 25 in the Ave. D Baptist
Church of Snyder.
After a wedding trip to Dallas
the couple returned to Abilene
where they will reside at 1641
N. 21st.

recited vows Jan. 26 in the First

Jane Shaw Snyder senior and

sor in woodwinds and music
theory at H-SU were married
Jan. 25 in a private ceremony at
the Central Presbyterian Church
of Abilene.
The couple visited his parents
in Dallas and then returned to
Abilene.
Jane Creek Coleman senior
became the bride of James Price
Sweeny senior Jan. 25 in Cole-
man. They will both graduate
this spring.

clubs have been planning for rush
week which begins Feb. 11 elect-
ing nominees for best-dressed
coed and selecting new officers.
DELTA
Delta named Joy Terry Abi-
lene senior as its best-dressed
nominee and planned an all-day
retreat for Feb. 9. During the
retreat committees for rush
alumni spring dinner and all-
school sing will discuss further
plans.
Miss Terry is in charge of
spring rush for Delta.

3 H-SU Coeds
In Running for
Miss Abilene
Three H-SU coeds are among
the 12 finalists named this week
in the 1963 Miss Abilene Page
ant. The pageant sponsored by
the Abilene Junior Chamber of
Commerce will be held March 9
at Abilene High School. The
winner will represent Abilene in
the 1963 Miss Texas contest.
Hardin-Simmons coeds selected
for the finals include Barbara
Mayes Abilene sophomore;
Tempy Dell Burress a freshman
from Madison Wis.; and Mertie
Lewis Plainview sophomore.
Other finalists named by Wayne

Three to Seek
Mission Jobs
Three Hardin-Simmons Univer-
sity students will appear before
the state missions committee of
the Baptist Student Union in
Dallas Feb. 14-15 seeking ap-
pointments asBSU summer mis-
sionaries. The three are Stella Moon
Houston sophomore; Jeannie Mal-
lew Plainview sophomore; and
Jim Townes Muleshoe junior.
They were chosen by a special
committee of the local BSU.
Carl Nowlin Tucumcari N. M.
senior was named first alternate
for the summer missions com-
mittee appointments to Japan at
the committee's meeting in Janu-
ary. Carl is still hoping to par-
ticipate in the Japan New Life
Crusade this spring with private
funds.

in the Student Center at a CLASP
Campaign kickoff dinner.
CLASP which stands for Col-
lege Loyalty Alumni Support
Program is a program which
solicits financial aid for the 14
participating schools. Some 500
volunteer workers are expected to
attend the dinner. Fourteen
schools are participating in the
campaign.
In addition to Hardin-Simmons.
others participating include Mc-
Murry Abilene Christian College
University of Arkansas Baylor
University East Texas State
Mary Hardin - Baylor College
Southern Methodist University
Southwestern University Texas
Christian University Texas Tech

Morey Millerman Abilene in-
surance and real estate man is
chairman of this year's drive.
Briggs Todd First State Bank is
vice chairman. Workers will
solicit funds for their schools
from Feb. 4 to Feb. 15.
Coleman served as football
coach at ACC from 1942 until
1949.
Harry N. Walker a certified ac-
countant with Condley Morphew
and Co. will serve as chairman-
for the H-SU campaign.
A 1955 H-SU graduate he
played in the Cowboy Band and
Symphonic Band for four years;
was active in the Oratorical and
debate Council; and was a mem-
ber of Beta Mu Kappa national
honorary music fraternity.
He majored in accounting and
minored in economics. He married
the former Barbara Jean Ramsey
a 1956 H-SU graduate.
