La Grange has been complimented on numerous oc-
casions on the cleanliness of ils appearance. Yet em-
ployees of the City Health and Sanitation Department
are experiencing considerable delay and unnecessary
effort hi the collection of garbage and trash. In many
cases garbage and trash are not placed in proper recep-
tacles and many times such trash and garbage are im-
properly located for collection.
The City Ordinance regulating such collection serv-
ice clearly sets forth that kitchen garbage and dry re-
fuse shall be placed in portable garbage cans in good
condition from 10 to 30 gallons in size in the residential
area and up to 40 gallons in the husinass section; that
such eans shall be complete with two handles and a
tight fitting cover also with handle Trash or rubbish
shall be placed in boxes, sacks or barrels, etc., of
reasonable size (total gross weight not to exceed 100
lbs.)
Garbage cans and trash receptacles shall be placed
within five feet of fhe property line in alleys (outside
any fences), and where there is no alley, such cans and
receptacles shall be placed just inside the curb line of
fhe street. Emplacement of such cans and receptacles
must be at a point readily accessible to the City’s collec-
tion vehicles.
While penalties are provided in the Ordinance for
failure to comply with its provisions. City officials urge
wholehearted compliance in order to assure more effi-
cient operation of the City's Health and Sanitation De-
partment and better service in the collection of garbage
and trash within the City. It will also insure a safer and
cleaner City.
