Cattle Chatter
From Valley Stock Yards
Mercedes
MERCEDES — Calves, good and
choice, $23 to $26; common to good,
$21 to $24; culls, $13 to $16.50; fat
cows, good and choice, $17 to $20;
cutter and canner cows, $10 to
$15.50; good heavy bulls, $17.50 to
$19.50; light weight stocker bulls,
$18 to $22; stocker and feeder calves,
$21 to $26.50; stocker and feeder
yearlings, $17 to $21; good young
plain stocker cows, $16 to $20.
HOGS: Good and choice hogs,
weight 180 to 250 lbs., $16 to $17.50;
packer sows, weight 200 to 300 lbs.,
$15 to $16.50; stocker pigs and
shoats, $15 to $18.
A run of about 550 head of stock
was sold Monday. A number of large
loads of fat and stocker stock was
brought in. Among our large con-
signers were F. H. Vahlsing, Elsa;
H. C. Drawe, Weslaco; K. R. Floro,
Brownsville; P. F. Wiley, Roma; W.
T. Hodge, Harlingen. There was a
large number of small consigners
also.
Out of the Valley buyers who sent
out loads of cattle were: Ned De-
laney, Marlin; J. A. Cox, Dilley;
Travis Mansfield, Pleasanton; Earl
Cotter, Campbellton; Harry Max,
Cuero; and a load went to Roegelien
Provision of San Antonio.
Large Valley buyers were W. H.
Carlisle, Harlingen; Lupe Leal, Mis-
sion; W. T. Hodge, Harlingen; Juan
Cacares, Donna; Southwestern Pack-
ing, Harlingen and N. E. Newman,
Mercedes.
ATTEND GAME
AT KINGSVILLE
MERCEDES —Mr. and Mrs. W.
W. Holmes, accompanied by Mrs.
L. H. Henry, attended the basket-
ball game between A & I college,
Kingsville, and McMurry college,
Abilene, in Kingsville, at the week-
end. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes visited
with their son, Charles in Kings-
ville, and a son, Bill, who accompa-
nied the McMurry college basketball
team. Mrs. Henry had a visit with
her daughter, Frances, a student at
A & I college.
Epsilon Sigma Alpha
Met Monday Night
MERCEDES — Harmony Hill
Lodge was the setting for the Mon-
day night meeting of the Epsilon
Sigma Alpha Sorority for a business
session. Mrs. Fred Gillette, sor-
ority president, presided. Mrs. Chlo-
rene Dodson was hostess for the
meeting. Refreshments were served.
Plans were made for future activi-
ties. Others present were Mrs.
James Chapman, Mrs. Ross Beamer,
Mrs. Fred Gibson and Miss Mary
Frances Dean.

Received In Concert
Here Monday Night
MERCEDES — Della Chiesa, so-
prano, sang her way into the hearts
of the people who attended the third
and last presentation of the Mid-
Valley Community Concerts Asso-
ciation held at the high school audi-
torium Monday night.
Robert Turner, accompanist for
Chiesa, gave special piano numbers.
Raymond Mills, Weslaco, ^resident
of the association, made a brief talk,
stating that the membership drive
for the second presentation of con-
certs will start at onee. The Merce-
des florists furnished floral arrange-
ments for the stage.
Bandera, Texas, where he visited
his mother, Mrs. E. F. Kindla. Mrs.
Kindla is 81 years old. She enjoyed
the surprise visit made by her son.
Barbara Ewing, who is attending
the University of Texas, spent the
week-end here with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs/ Tommy Ewing.
John Mosher and Marvin K. Ed-
gar spent the week-end in Sinton
with friends.
Mercedes Locals
Mrs. Dorothy Kelman and Mrs.
Bessie Trudo were in San Antonio
at the week-end where they attended
arand opera. Tphey attended the op-
era, La Traviata on Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Clarke report,
that friends of theirs, Dr. and Mrs.
Vernon Stephens of Fort Collins,
Colorado, are wintering in Mercedes
Miss Annis Jones, former resident
of Mercedes, Portland, Oreeon, has
been- a guest here in the home of
Mrs. Jennie V. Jones and Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Hilton. Miss Jones is
also visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. E.
Bennett in Weslaco.

Kiwanis Convention
More than 10,000 persons are ex-
pected to attend the 35th annual
convention of Kiwanis International
May 7 to 11 at Miami, Fla., officers
of the Kiwanis Club of Mercedes
were informed today.
Ernest Fogel, president of the
club, said that reports from the
Miami Kiwanis convention head-
quarters indicate that preparations
for the five-day meeting are fast
nearing completion.
Many nationally known figures
will be on hand to address delegates,
representing 3,100 clubs and 200,-
000 members throughout the United
States, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii and
the Yukon Territory, Fogel said.
