Special dinner dress
discussed by Austin
The following statement was released from the of-
fice of Dean Alvin O. Austin this week concerning dress
at special dinners:
"There appears to be some misunderstanding or a
laqk of concern on the part of some individuals pertain-
ing to their manner of dress at the special dinners and
at Sunday dinners. Because these are more formal oc-
casions than the average meal served in the cafeteria
the H-SU Handbook states that 'students are expected
to pay special attention to their appearance at these
times.'
"This means the women students should not wear
pantsuits and that men should preferably wear coat and
tie but at minimum a nice shirt and slacks. Men are not
to wear levis and t-shirts or sweatshirts for these din-
ners. "In addition the recent student faculty adminis-
tration committee on student dress regulations discus-
sed the wearing'of tank-shirts and agreed that the tank-
shirt is a most informal garment designed for athletic
purposes. Students should not "consider tank-shirts to
be appropriate attire for Moody Center administrative
buildings or for the classroom."
Mrs. Childress who graduated
in 1967 from H-SU is a former
four-year rider in the group and
served as co-sponsor in 1969. At
that time the White Horse Rid-
ers and the Cowboy Band par-
ticipated in the inaugural par-
ade in President Nixon in Wash-
ington. TO LEAVE Abilene Friday
Nov. 20 for the 10-day trip will
be Kay Writer senior of Chil-
dress and fourth year rider; Pat-
sie Greer junior of Abilene and
third year rider; Lois Dunn
junior of Comstock and also a
third year rider; Chris Clegg
sophomore of Ozona and second
year rider; and freshman rider
Paula Birdwell of Silverton.
The current mood of the girls
is naturally excitement. "I feel
that it is a real privilege to go"
said Patsie Greer. "This is the
biggest event of the year."
Fashionable Uniforms
An additional cause for excite-
ment is the set of new fashion-
able uniforms the girls will wear
for the parade. The basic cos-
tumes are styled of glowing pur-
ple lame and will be accented
with white Western hats belts
gloves boots and new white
leather vests boasting purple
Texas and H-SU emblems.
THE ROUTE tentatively plan-
ned will go through Birming-
ham Atlanta the Carolinas and
Virginia Washington Baltimore-
and Philadelphia. Stops will be
in Birmingham Winston-Salem
N.C. Fairfax Va. and Washing-
ton where the group will spend
two nights. On Tuesday Nov.
24 they will arrive in New York
and that day will ride in a
parade in Greenwich Conn.
Sightseeing is planned for both.
Washington and New York
where the girls hope to attend a
Broadway musical production.
Selected Annually
The White Horse Riders are
selected annually by a panel of
judges on the basis ability to sad-
dle a horse and riding. Also they
must have a good general know-
ledge of riding. Personality and
appearance are also considered.
OTHER MEMBERS of this
year's White Horse Riders group
are Cindi Wiley freshman of
Merkel; Paula Wooten sopho-
more of Haskell; and Pam Brun-
son senior of Wichita Kan.
The unit was begun in the
early 1930's by Gilbert Sandefer

Computer
aids H-SU
The Computer Center is hav-
ing a growth spurt in an effort
to meet the needs of the campus.
Dallas Nash director of the
Computer Science Center has
announced the addition of APL
programming to the Center.
APL is a language which does
not require the computer user
to be versed in a problem-
oriented computer language
Nash said.
The new programming lan-
guage will be installed by mid-
November. Also newly installed
is the SL-1 language a subset of
PL-1 which is a standard lan-
guage in use throughout the
industry.
The Computer Science Center
serves administration faculty
staff and students on the cam-
pus. Among its services for stu-
dents Nash reported are various
management games which are
employed by business classes.
The management games are
"played" on the computer and
lectures supplement the learn-
ing process.
