THURSDAY OCTOBER 29, 1925.
Local Woman Presi-
dent of Alumnae of
Old Texas College
Many women over the state will
he interested to learn of the reun-
ion of the ex-students and alumnae of
the Mary Nash College, formerly of
Sherman, Texas which was held
at Plano, October 16, 1925. Mrs.
Wallace Jones, of Forney, president
of the association for this year was
in charge of the arrangements and
says that elaborate arrangements had
been worked out for the occasion.
The association is composed of
something over 600 active members
ever the state of Texas, although the
students of this pioneer women’s col-
lege are scatter’d from New York to
the Pacific coast and from Washing-
ton to Florida.
There are four units in the asso-
ciation, one being at Dallas, one at
Sherman, one at Fort Worth, and
another group composed of the small
town “girls" who are scattered over
the state. Each year there is a re-
union and officers are chosen from
the units in rotation. This year
the small town members were host-
esees for the occasion and the Misses
Rosa and Clara Routh of Plano were
the citd hostesses. The Plano
Chamber of Commerce was behind the
celebration and assured the associa-
tion the utmost courtesy.
There was a iuneheon business
meeting and a reception for the
guests. Many unique features and
humorous sketches had been plan,
ned for the luncheon
It was the hope of the association
that this meeting will be attended by
many women from the Houston neigh-
borhood, as there are so many promi-
nent women living there who belong
to this association, it is thought a
strong unit could be formed in Hous-
ton. Some of the students now living
there are, Mrs. Vincent, wife of the
former president of the state uni-
versity, Mrs. Lewis Thompson and
Mrs. Alexander Thompson.
Many prominent women over the
United States have been students of
this college. In Dallas there are Mrs.
J. Howard Ardrey, nee Goion Hayden,
Mrs. J Dabney Day, nee Nancy Hay-
den, and Mrs Grace Scruggs, nee Price.
Another much loved and well-known
woman who attended this institution
is Mrs. Milton Ragsdale, of Highland

Another Dallas resident ex-student
is Mrs. Leslie Moore, wife of one of
the prominent physicians.
The Mary Nash College was found,
ed in Sherman in 1877 by Mary Nash,
and at that time was the only out-
standing college for women of a high
grade. It was an international school
*1 that time. Mrs. Nash wa3 bom of
Puritan stock in Panama, N. Y. in
1826, and married a southerener, who
moved to Texas. He also was a great
educator.
In 1901 the Methodist Conference
bought the property, Mrs. Nash and
her husband having died, and called
Mrs. Kidd from Mississipi to act in
the capacity of president of thte
school. Later Mrs. Kidd was married
to Bishop Key, a prominent church I
official in the Methodist church and
the school was named in honor of
her and Bishop Key. The school still
stands a monument to education for
women.
Mr. and Mrs. Pat Zarafonetis and
daughter, Helen, and James Daugh-
erty visited in Corsicana Sunday after-
noon. Mrs. N. C. Roberts and little
Christine Zurafonetis returned to
Forney with them.
