Attend Convention
The fourth annual conven-
tion of the Texas-Louisiana
Lutheran Church Women of
the Lutheran Church in Ame-
rica was held at the Rice Ho-
tel in Houston on Oct. 17-19
with 252 attending.
The theme chosen was “The
Role of Today’s Christian Wo-
men.” The convention was
opened Sunday evening by
Mrs. A. G. Nelson of Dallas,
president. Dr. Philip Wahl-
berg, president of the Texas-
Louisiana Synod, convention
chaplain, opened the Monday
and Tuesday morning sessions
with devotional*.
The program ut the noon
luncheon was held in the
grand ballroom.
The Rev. Fred Hainan, pas-
tor of Faith Lutheran church,
San Antonio, and former mis-
sionary in Malaysia, preached
the sermon at the vesper ser-
vice Held at Grace Lutheran
church with Rev. David F.
Conrad serving as liturgist.
Other speakers were Miss
Esther Barnhurt, missionary
in Japan; Rev. Marian Peter-
son and Dr. Nic Tengg of Ben
Taub hospital.
Mrs. John Graeter and Leo-
na Bauer represented the Lu-
theran Church Women of Phi-
ladelphia Lutheran church of
Swiss Alp. Mrs. Albert Laux
attended as a visitor on Mon-
day.
Sladek Is Selected Army Recruiter
FHA Chapter Beau i Going To School
Erwin Sladek, a La Grange
High school senior, was select-
ed by the senior chapter of the
Future Homemakers of A neri-
ca as their beau for this school
year.
Erwin has been active in
Future Farmers of America
for the past three years where
he has held the office of vice
president his freshmen year.
He participated in the FFA ro-
deo and Junior Livestock
Show. This past summer he at-
tended the State FFA conven-
tion in Houston.
He is a member of the foot-
ball team where he lettered
this past year. Erwin is also
president of the CYO in his
church, and is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Erwin Sladek.
I Sgt. Edward J. Campana,
Army recruiter, has received
orders to attend an Army
school at Fort Benjamin Harri-
son, Ind. He points out that
j this is one of the continuing
benefits he receives as a mem-
i her of today’s modern Army.
