Texas’ commercial hatcheries
produced 8,514,000 broiler
chicks in October, accounting
for 86 percent of all chicks
hatched, according to the Texas
Crop Reporting Service. This
was a 22 percent increase over
September and 12 percent a-
bove the year before. Texas
broiler production in 1957 was
106,000,000 Estimated produc-
tion in 1958 in 121,000,000.
Broiler-type chicks produced
in the U. S. during October
totaled 131,894,000 accounting
for 89 percent of all chicks. This
compares with 119,701,000 in
October, 1957. Production Jan-
uary through October of this
year was up 14 percent from
the first 10 months of 1957.
