SILENT
W E ONCE knew a man who talked only when abso-
lutely necessary. He told us that when he was a
very small boy his mother once impressed upon him that
the more he talked the more lies it was possible for him
to tell. His mother also taught him to love the truth.
The habit of few words was therefore formed when he
was very young. Not such a bad habit is it?

YOURS
S HOULD any day in this New Year be drab and dreary,
and work become a burden, just stop a moment and
think about this-that you would rather have the ability
to earn an independent living than have a million dollars.
The one is a permanent possession and may be a constant
joy, while the other may slip through your fingers like
sand, or if able to keep it, be a living worry. '(2)
