John W. Wester: Funeral services were held July 19th at 2 p.m. in the Cottage Hill Methodist
Church for John W. Wester, 74, of Weston, Texas who died July 17, 1955 at 10:45 p.m. in McKinney
City County Hospital following an illness of three weeks. Rev. Ralph Van Landingham, pastor of
Weston and Cottage Hill Methodist Churches conducted services. Burial was in Cottage Hill Cemetery
directed by Helms Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Roy Mayes, Bailey Dickerson, Laud Howell, Volney
Phillips, Luther Francis and Lonzo Grigg. Mr. Wester was born July 24, 1881 in Westerville, Tennessee,
a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Franklin Wester. He came to Texas with his parents and had lived
in the Weston area since 1892. He was a member of the Cottage Hill Methodist Church and was a retired
rural mail carrier, having served a Celina route for many years. He and Miss Kate O'Brien were married
in 1902. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Huffer of Lawton, Oklahoma; one brother, Ed Wester of
Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Gladden of Denton, Texas, Mrs. J. R. Darnall and Mrs. Allye

Thomas Jefferson Wester: Thomas Jefferson Wester, 66, a Celina brick mason and resident of
the community for over 60 years was stabbed Monday while he sat in a car at a Swiss Ave. residence.
A murder charge has been filed against Bertha McDonald, a 36 year old practical nurse who formerly
lived in the Celina Community. The scene of the slaying was the McDonald car which was parked near
the home where Miss McDonald was employed. After the filing of the murder charges Monday, the
woman was transferred from city jail to Dallas County jail. Funeral services for Mr. Wester were
conducted here Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in First Baptist Church with Rev. R. L. Stanley and Rev.
G. C. Burnett of McKinney officiating. Burial was in Cottage Hill Cemetery directed by Helms Funeral
Home. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Wester of the Alla Community. He was born in
DeKalb County, Tennessee, August 17, 1884 and moved to Texas at the age of three. Survivors include
3 sons, Charlie Wester of Van Alstyne, Texas, Harold Wester of Hereford, Texas and Don Wester of
San Diego, California; two brothers, Lon and Everett Wester of Celina, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie
Douglas, Mrs. H. L. Thomason, Mrs. M. E. Manes all of Celina, Texas and Mrs. G. W. Tillerson of
Tioga, Texas; two step sisters, Mrs. Jim Flanary of Sherman, Texas and Mrs. Milton Glenn Presscott of
Arizona; three half-brothers, Ben Wester of Celina, Texas, Hershel Wester of Portland, Oregon and Paul
Wester of Rock Hill. Pallbearers were Jim Callahan, Fred Marks, J. C. Loftis, Claud Loftis, L. N. Cox

Van Everett Wester: Funeral services for Van Everett Wester, 82 years, 1 month and 6 days
old, are being held Thursday 2:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church in Celina, Texas with Rev. Noble
Glasco pastor of the church and Rev. J. T. Bledsoe pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church officiating.
Interment was to be in Cottage Hill Cemetery with Harris Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Wester, former
resident of the Alla Community for about seventy years died Tuesday, October 2, 1956, at 3:13 p.m. in
Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas after being a patient there thirteen days following a fall in his home
in which he suffered a broken hip. Mr. Wester was born August 26, 1874 in Smithville, Tennessee, son
of the late W. S. and Josephine Merritt Wester. He came to Texas with his parents when small and the
family settled near Blossom Community. A few years later they moved to Roseland Community. Mr.
Wester and Miss Maggie McWhirter were married December 19, 1895 in the home of the bride's parents
near Alla Community. He has been a member of the Methodist Church for many years. Survivors include
the wife of Celina, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Jim Thompson of the Marilee Community, Texas, Mrs.COLLIN CH RONICLES
