I had a lot to write about this
week and just couldn't pick
one, so I decided to just ramble
on for a bit. I got to visit with
Mr. Zihlman more about the
Grotto in Windthorst this week.
He is making sure I have all the
names correct and that I men-
tion all those who need to be. I
have really enjoyed learning
about this major project ol love
and faith.
I wrote about Joe Holman last
week, and he showed up Mon-
day afternoon to introduce us
to his wife. They flew into Aus-
tin and had planned to visit the
Texas Hill Country. It was rain-
ing so much, in that area, that
they decided to come to Archer
County first. They didn't get to
stay long, but Mrs. Holman did
get at chance to see that Archer
City and all of those Joe met

were as wonderful as he said
they were.
I also spent some time with
Jack Loftin. our local histo-
rian. He has gotten some new
pieces at the museum and is
very proud of them. I wanted to
‘ take a photo and run it with the
story but I guess I will have to
wait on that. To get you inter-
ested, the has they have the
largest Indian Bathtub, or
Metate, that Jack is aware of
and a 6 foot piece of a petrified
tree. Both of these are in the
front yard of the museum in
case you want to drive by and
take a look before my story
next week.
I am sure most of you have
heard about the City Wide Ga-
rage Sale the Archer Chamber
of Commerce is sponsoring on
April 5th. The American Legion
Auxiliary of Ira Jones Post
#198, in Archer City will be
taking this one step farther.
They will have booths available
at the Legion Hall for any of you
who would like to participate
and either live too far out, or
would just like the opportunity
to sell your “treasures" in an
indoor area. If weather per-
mits they will also have spaces
available outside in the park-
ing lot. All proceeds from the
rental will be donated to the
American Cancer Society.
Those renting booths will keep
100% of their own proceeds or
they can donate any portion to
the cancer drive.
The Auxiliary usually has a
door to door campaign for the
Cancer Society each year. This
year they thought the City Wide
Garage Sale would be a fun
way to help the Cancer Society,
and a way to help all those who
need a place to participate in
the sale. I am sure they will
also take any donations to the
Cancer Society if you would
like to just drop that by. If you
have any questions or would
re to reserve a booth you can
ich them at 5741-2737, 574-
2342, or 574-4342 during the
day. or 574-4761 after 5 PM.
Ray Wylie Hubbard and
Rusty Wier are coming to Ar-
cher County. They will be just
two of the many musician who
will be performing on April 12th
at the Archer County Rodeo
Arena. The 1st Annual NWTX
(Northwest Texas) Practice
Music Festival promises to be a
fun day for families and music
fans. Tickets will go on sale
March 24th and will be $10 in
advance and $15 if you wait
and buy them at the gate.
You have probably heard the
names of Ray Wylie Hubbard
and Rusty Wier but can’t re
member, or you could be a long
time fan like myself. If you have
ever scooted a boot to “Don’t It
Make Ya Wanna Dance”, then
you are familiar with Rusty
Wier. Then almost everyone is
familiar with Ray Wylie's long
time favorite group sing along
“Up Against The Wall...".
The ACF and I are working
hard to make it a family day.
We have purposely kept the
admission price qs low as pos-
sible and are allowing children
under 12 in free, as long as
they are accompanied by their
parent. There will also be no
alcohol for sale at the Festival.
In addition to Wier and
Hubbard, Larry Joe Taylor, the
Grand Street Criers and many
others will be performing. The
gates will open at noon and the
music will go on until 11 pm.
Many of the performers that
are coming here are from Cali-
fornian. Dallas, New York and
elsewhere who just want to be
part of this first time event.
I am really looking forward to
it and the “songwriters in the
round" at the Annex. I guess
the secret is out, I do love mu-
sic. I just happen to love shar-
ing it with others more.
I want to thank everyone who
has been helping me with story
ideas and who have been teach-
ing me about the history of
Archer County. I am fasci-
nated and can't wait to hear
more.
