The Windthorst Trojans dom-
inated the Archer City Wildcats
in what added up to a 49-0 win
for the road team behind a suf-
focating defense and outstand-
ing offensive play. Archer City
won the toss and elected to take
the ball in their attempt to play
keep away from the Trojans.
After gaining 14 yards on the
opening play of the game, Big
Blue’s defense stiffened and
only allowed a yard on the next
three plays. Facing fourth and
nine from their 41, the Wildcats
punted to the Trojans with 9:26
left. The Trojans would start
their opening possession at their
39 yard line. Big Blue would
score on a one yard Braydon
Ingram plunge seven plays later
taking 2:10 off the clock in the
process. Jordy Cruz would kick
his first of seven extra points.
Joe Hoegger would end the
next Wildcat possession on
the first play of the drive as
he intercepted a pass offering,
setting up the Trojans at the
Wildcat 29 yard line with 7:03
left in the first quarter. Five
plays later Dylan Stallcup was
the recipient of a Hoegger 15
yard touchdown pass making
the score 14 with 5:41 left.
Dylan would add another catch
later in the game to finish with
two catches for 45 yards.
The Wildcats would start their
next possession at their 37.
After a Trojan penalty would
give Archer City a first down
on fourth and two to midfield,
the Wildcats drive would end
though at their 49 facing fourth
and eleven. Windthorst would
take over possession at their 21
yard line with 2:23 remaining.
Facing second and 10, Tyler
Berardi would score from 56
yards out six plays later giving
the Trojans 21 with 1:03 left
in the opening quarter. Tyler
would lead the Trojans in yards
with 121 on ten carries.
The Big Blue defense would
force a three and out on the next
Archer City possession and take
over at their 24. After moving
the ball to the Wildcat 48, a
holding penalty pushed the Tro-
jans back to their 42 yard line.
On third and 16, Archer’s Tyler
Green would intercept the pass
offering ending the Trojan’s
drive at the Wildcat 27.
Archer would have their best
possession of the night as they
would pick up two first downs
on the series. The first was
gained when facing third and
eight at their 29, Cody Self
found Cole Havins for 15 yards
to their 44. Another offsides
penalty on third and one gave
the Black and Gold another first
down. But facing fourth and
four from the Trojans 36 yard
line, the Wildcats would have a
false start penalty of their own
and an incomplete pass would
stall the drive at 41. The pos-
session would take nearly five
minutes off the clock.
Fifty three seconds later
though Matthew Pitman
would score from four yards
out, following his 43 yard run
the previous play giving the
Trojans 28 with 4:27 left in the
opening half. Another three
and out gave the ball back to
the Trojans with 2:45 left in the
half at the Wildcat 48 yard line.
The Trojans quickly moved
the ball to the ten yard on a 20
yard catch by Chase Schreiber
and an 18 yard catch by Tyler.
On first and goal Cody Klimek
would deliver a big hit separat-
ing the ball from the Trojan
quarterback, but the Trojans
would recover at their 18. Fol-
lowing an incomplete pass,
Chase would catch his third
pass of the night for an 18 yard
touchdown. He would finish
with 50 yards receiving, while
Joe would finish with 113 yards
passing on six completions.
Windthorst would start the
second half at their 16 yard line
but a holding penalty pushed
them back to their eight yard
line. Big Blue would move
the ball to the Wildcat 21 yard
line where Colton Carnes
would end the drive by recover-
ing a fumble at the Wildcat’s
22. Four plays later Braydon
Ingram would stuff the Wildcat
ball carrier for a two yard loss
at the Wildcat 28 yard line on
fourth and two. Ingram led
the Big Blue defense with 13
tackles. Five plays later, Chase
scored his second touchdown
of the night on a nine yard line.
He finished his night with five
carries for 83 yards.
The Wildcats next possession
started at their 13 yard line.
They were able to pick up two
first down out to their 37, but
were forced to punt on fourth
and 12. Big Blue would start
at their next series at their 46
yard line. Twelve plays later
Pitman scored his second four
yard touchdown to complete
the scoring. Matthew finished
the night with six carries for 70
yards as the Trojans pounded
the ball for 392 yards on 49 car-
ries. The Trojans collected 26
first downs while limiting the
Wildcats to 6.
Wes Hastings led the Wildcat
with 12 carries for 36 yards as
they finished the night with 74
yards on 32 carries to go with
19 yards passing. The Wildcats
have a bye this week as they
fall to 1-1 in district before
traveling to Electra where they
look to clinch a playoff spot.
Windthorst improved to 1-0
in district play and 6-1 on the
season. They host the Electra
Tigers who are coming off a
loss at the hands of Munday
Moguls which dropped them
to 1-1 in district play as the
beat Perrin-Whitt in the district
opener.
JV TROJANS SHUTDOWN
WILDCATS
by Chris Tackett
The Windthorst Junior Var-
sity improved to 6-1 on the
2011 campaign with a 44-0
shutout of the visiting Archer
City Wildcats. A stout defense
keep the Wildcats pinned back
in their territory most of the
night. Caleb Gresham led the
assault with an interception and
a fumble recovery to go along
with 8 tackles. Jacob Meurer,
Owen Veitenheimer and Clay-
ton Wolf provided great inte-
rior play while Dalton Anderle
and Joe Baird had several key
plays at linebacker. Max Benzel
chipped in at linebacker and also
put the Wildcats in a hole with
his deep kickoffs. Five different
Trojans got the ball in the paint
for 7 touchdowns on the night.
Avery Blagg set up the first
score with a nifty 22 yard run to
the 5. Chandler King converted
that effort with a 5 yard keeper.
King scored on the next series as
well, this time from 70 yards, as
the freshman signal caller kept
the ball on the option and outran
the Archer defense to paydirt.
Following Gresham’s intercep-
tion, Heath Julian punched the
ball in from 5 yards for the first
of his two scores. Julian, the
bruising running back for the
Trojans, took a pitch around the
left side for 45 yards later in the
contest. Fullback Dalton Ander-
le also scored as he capped the
first half scoring at 33 when he
pulled in from 4 yards out.
The Trojans scored twice in
the second half, both on im-
pressive plays. King followed
a good fake, bootleg to his left
and throw a great pass into the
outstretched arms of tightend
Carter Crain. Crain scamper ed
in for the score following the
catch. Gresham ended the scor-
ing as he broke through several
would be tacklers and sped 81
yards for the final tally.
At the post game interview-
--
room, Devon Lindeman said,
“The defense really played well
tonight and I think that was the
key in getting a victory over a
good team like Archer City.”
The Trojans do not have a
game scheduled as of press time
for next week but look to battle
the Moguls of Munday on the
27th of October.
