Manager, Brownwood Chamber of CommerceBrownwood, the county seat of
Brown County, was incorporated in
1878, population 567. Its growth has
been steady. From 1920 to 1930 it in-
creased 50 per cent. It is now growing
rapidly. Population in 1930, 12,789;
1940, 13,398; 1941, Civilian 25,000,
Army 31,000. Percentage of nativeBrownwood is situated at an eleva-
tion of 1,342 feet above sea level and
has a mild and equable climate. The
mean annual temperature is 65.3 de-
grees F. The average annual rainfall
is 26.02 inches. It seldom snows and
when it does the snow rarely stays on
the ground over a day or two.i/:

Brownwood is located almost in the
center of the county where State High-
ways 7, 10 and 23 and United States
Highways 67, 84 and 283 intersect. All
of these roads are paved, asphalt cr
concrete.
