a better plan would be to simply establish a strong
mission up there-and give over all our night services
to it,taking all our forces up there then for a strong
program of service each Sunday night. Gradually our
people would see that our whole time should be given
to that patt of town, and it would be easier to hove
the church as a whole.
We are a smaller church than any other down town,
not able to have a good choir nor other attractions
w.lich the other churches have; conse-uently the other
churches get all the crowds. 1 have-tried all sorts of
things to get the crowds here, and succeed for the time
but immediately the crowd would dwindle downto the old
faithful few. It is plain that we shall never grow
here in the middle of a group of much larger churches
one of which is Presbyterian. borth Uainesville ias
grown beyond the roach of the protenatant churches since
the oil refineries have been built, Scores and hundreds
of children and young people never see inside a SS or
church. It is my honest opinio$ that within 6 months
'w could build up a b.b. there numbering as large as
al .oot any S. S.in town if we go after it With a vim.
Moreover,it would be the making of our church in ialnesville.
The Curtberlanals have a small church aiJouL half way
between tow,, and the proposed nlisJion wa Lave in mind.
It ii my plan to court them and propose a union of the
two churches here, so that we can be more able to do the
thi4g without seemin, to compete with them. Perhaps
a joint mission on the ground would do more to unite
us and bring about, fina~ly,a union of that sort.
Pray for us in all these plans. Am hoping the meeting
will crystalize and mature our thinking along all
there lines, and that we may all be prepared to
follow the will of God in this crucial time.
~iust close.
