" Burton Hall, is to be awarded to an upperlevel
undergraduate English major who
plans to pursue teaching as a career and
_ who needs the financial support. The
award is for one year but is renewable if
the selection committee so decides.
Carson Endowed Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Carson of Merkel
established this fund in 1983. The scholarship
will be awarded annually to worthy
and needy students selected by the Student
Aid Committee. Recipients must
have and maintain a grade point average
- of at least 2.50.
Carson Memorial Ministerial
Scholarship
Mrs. Ira Carson of Ozona has endowed
a ministerial scholarship in memory of her
late husband, Ira Melosant Carson. Mr.
Carson was a rancher in Crockett County
and a long time deacon of the First Baptist
Church of Ozona. The annual income will
be assigned by the Student Aid Committee
to a ministerial student who maintains
a 2.50 GPA and shows evidence of financial
need.
Carmichael Memorial Scholarship
This annual award of $300 has been
endowed by Mrs. M. M. O'Rear of Snyder
in memory of her father, the late L. C. Carmichael.
The University awards this scholarship
to a future teacher who has
completed two years of college work
maintaining an academic record of B or
better. The recipient's aptitude and personality
must indicate the promise of his
becoming an excellent teacher.
Childers Endowed Scholarship
A $5,000 endowed scholarship in honor
of Dr. and Mrs. Clyde J. Childers has been
funded by Mrs. W. Guy Draper of Temple
and Mrs. Ira Carson of Ozona. The annual
income will be assigned by the Student
Aid Committee to a student who is actively
and enthusiastically dedicated to the
ideals of Christian service, in need of
financial assistance, and maintains at
- least a 2.50 GPA.Class of '33 Endowed Scholarship
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of
the Class of '33, a permanent memorial
was established in the form of an
endowed scholarship fund. This memorial
honors the Faculty and Staff of HardinSimmons
who gave so sacrificially of their
salaries without expectation of recovery
during the "depression years."
Earnings from this fund will be awarded
to a deserving student by the Student Aid
Committee.
The Gordon Clinard Endowed
Memorial Scholarship for Ministerial
Students
This scholarship fund was established
by friends of Dr. Gordon Clinard who was,
prior to his death, Distinguished Professor
of Religion in the Department of
Religion at Hardin-Simmons University.
Earnings from this endowment will be
awarded to a junior ministerial student
upon recommendation by the faculty of
the Logsdon School of Theology. The
recipient will be eligible for the award his
senior year; upon graduation, the student
will be identified as the recipient of the
Gordon Clinard Scholarship.
The Ray G. Collins Endowed
Scholarship Fund
This fund has been established by Dr. &
Mrs. Ray G. Collins of Houston. The earnings
will be used to assist worthy and
needy students in securing an
education.
Conaway Memorial Music Scholarship
The C. P. and Martha Conaway Memorial
Scholarship was established by Mrs.
B. H. Meskimen (nee Cecile Conaway) in
memory of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. P.
Conaway. It is designed to assist music
majors in the fields of piano, organ, voice,
strings, and church music. Eligibility for
the scholarship is based upon a 3.00
grade average and a recommendation
from the Dean of the School of Music to
the Music Scholarship Committee. Mrs.
Meskimen was a member of the class of
1917, and her father C. P. Conaway,
served for several years as a trustee of the
University.
