24 STUDENT FINANCIAL AID
Conley Endowed Scholarship for
Accounting Students
This scholarship was endowed by Mr.
Albert R. Conley of Midland with an initial
gift of more than $15,000. The income will
be available to accounting students
selected by the Student Aid Office in
cooperation with the Dean of the School of
Business.
Ex-Cowgirls Endowed Scholarship
The Ex-Cowgirls of Hardin-Simmons
University have established this scholarship.
Preference will be given to students
who are relatives of former members of
the HSU Cowgirls. The selection is made
by the Student Aid Committee upon recommendation
of the Ex-Cowgirls
organization.
Dora E. Cunningham Scholarship
Fund
A very substantial scholarship fund has
been established by the Dora E. Cunningham
Trust. Recipients will be selected
by the Student Aid Committee with preference
being given to students from the
Texas Baptist Childrens Home of Round
Rock. A minimum of 2.50 GPA is
required.
The Davidson Family Charitable
Foundation Endowed Scholarship
The Davidson Family Charitable Foundation
has established an endowed Presidential
Scholarship with earnings to be
awarded by the President of Hardin-Simmons
University to promising and deserving
students.
Drake Scholarship for
Ministerial Students
The Drake Endowed Scholarship for a
Ministerial Student has been established
by Mrs. A. C. Drake of Lubbock. Income
from a $10,000 endowment gift provides
scholarship assistance to a junior or
senior ministerial student attending Hardin-Simmons
University.
To qualify for a Drake Scholarship, a
student must maintain a B average in his
studies and demonstrate both commitment
and overall competency for theChristian ministry. The selection of Drake
scholars shall be made by the President of
Hardin-Simmons University upon the recommendation
of the faculty of the Logsdon
School of Theology.
Each recipient shall have a conference
with the Dean of the Logsdon School of
Theology at least once each semester for
guidance, for encouragement to pursue
his seminary education immediately upon
completion of his college degree, and for
encouragement in his ministry. The Director
of the In-Service Training Program, in
the interest of the students' required field
work guidance, shall place the recipients
of the scholarship with the most competent
pastors available.
Dutton Endowed Memorial Music
Scholarship
The John G. and Alice E. Dutton Memorial
Music Scholarship was established by
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Joiner (nee Mildred L.
Dutton) in honor of her parents. It is
designed to assist music majors in the
areas of piano, organ, voice, strings, and
church music. Eligibility for the scholarship
is based on a 3.00 grade point average
and a recommendation from the Dean
of Music to the Music Scholarship Committee.
Mrs. Joiner received her Bachelor
of Music Degree from Hardin-Simmons
University in 1936.
Emery Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Emery Memorial Endowed Scholarship
honors Mr. and Mrs. William B.
Emery, the parents of Miss Emogene
Emery of the HSU faculty (retired). Mr. and
Mrs. Emery were interested in the development
of effective speakers with Christian
attitudes. The intent of the award is to
attract outstanding new students in
Speech.
The award will be $250 each semester
to a sophomore, junior or senior who is a
speech major or minor. It is to be continued
to the same student as long as the
student maintains an acceptable academic
record. The recipient of the award
is to be selected by the Chairman of the
Department of Communication and
Theatre._ __
